Looking at the vids of the leak it appears as if they would be well advised to insert a self tapping bung into what is left of the pipe. If they made it with valves in the end that can be closes after it has been fitted the pressure shouldn't become a problem.

Many of the common fixes that most of you think of are sound in your mind only due to the fact you have no knowledge of facts.

I for one am glad INTELLIGENT SCIENTIST are the ones looking at fixes and not you.

If the highly pressurized methane ignites we are screwed because it probably wouldn't remain a blowout fire. In other words big freakin boom.

The option they may be considering is a blast that will seal it without igniting it.

So lets recap... Not able to work on the pipe or big boom. Can't seal it with a bottle top cause it freezes over too quickly. If we can't touch it due to volitility what other options would we have?

Why do you think they tried a concrete topper? Lowering someting steel creates static electricity through vibration in cables and such... big problem.

Perhaps a think tank instead of statements of ideas that couldn't work is a good idea!

Obama just gave a press conference and had pretty harsh words for all of the above...and for 10 years of Federal Govt. policy that allowed for drilling without permits.

So, he is bringing in big guns outside of big oil.

I have just heard a very good comment on a German radio station (Deutschlandfunk) critizising BP and the US government. They don't do anything and are still hiding the facts.
