There's live action on top of the rig with hard hat people on two of the cams right now. Never saw that before

Looking at top hat - is surely worse than ever.

dear 'freethinker'

I agree with your strategic analysis. the singular objection would be in the interplay between the national oil companies and their interdependence on the production ratios for distillate formation. in essence PDVSA ADNOC GAZPROM SAUDIARAMCO etc all deal with one another....if the infrastructure itself is compromised then the agressor in such action would have to answer to MANY different countries. Still the question remains if someone would be that stupid. We shall see.

Dear 'shr'

First thankyou for your work as a 'Mod'. This is my 1st official monikered post on GLP. I have posted numerous other times in various threads regarding oil and gas as an 'AC'.I have followed GLP however as a reader for years. After reading trinity's thread on population control of GLP essentially ... I decided to sign up.

My statements in the past as an ''AC'' have been well received by others and would like to repeat myself.

I believe the problem in the gulf is not relegated to one BOP.

I believe its systemic in nature and that this is only the beginning of a breakdown in antiquated equipment.

Regards

Edmond Dantes

I am more concerned about purposeful destruction of existing underwater well head machinery by terrorist organizations or rogue states.

Where'd those North Korean subs go?

Think they aren't paying attention to the expense and horror of this event?
 Quoting: Freethinker

No doubt we are showing our ass here...makes me worry too...ass...and just how weak it is....

I will write another "Oil thread" and what I'm pretty damn sure is going on...and what they aren't telling us and the method to the madness.....maybe tonight...run through the latest data that is sneaking out...and put a few things together some of us have already concluded...

Are there seismic scans/images showing size and shape of oil reservoir of the macondo well available for view? Any info will be appreciated.

Kind of funny that none of the previously successful methods of plugging wells have been tried. Equally funny is that not a single person who does this for a living has appeared on t.v. I can go into any oil patch coffee shop and find just those guys, I did it myself for 10 years. All I'm seeing as possible solutions on the tube are all really old school stuff, not even in the sixties. For some reason the same office commandos that allowed this to happen seem to still be in charge. Petroleum engineers are not the solution...mud engineers, wire line engineers and pipe recovery engineers are the solution but fat chance of those guys ever getting in charge.

THe oroginator of thise thread is not an oilfield person. That's obvious by these words "have to turn the drill".

No-one even remotely connected to an oil rig calls it a "drill".

This is what you hear on TV. You "drill" a well..... but that's the only place that term is used.

You most cetainly don't "turn the drill".

Can anyone oil/tech types vet the probability of this comment (which is from another forum and is related to the link below):

Schlumberger crew 'left rig hours before blast'

[link to www.upstreamonline.com]

Comment from the Oil Drum:

BP contracted Schlumberger (SLB) to run the Cement Bond Log (CBL) test that was the final test on the plug that was skipped. The people testifying have been very coy about mentioning this, and you'll see why.

SLB is an extremely highly regarded (and incredibly expensive) service company. They place a high standard on safety and train their workers to shut down unsafe operations.

SLB gets out to the Deepwater Horizon to run the CBL, and they find the well still kicking heavily, which it should not be that late in the operation. SLB orders the "company man" (BP's man on the scene that runs the operation) to dump kill fluid down the well and shut-in the well. The company man refuses. SLB in the very next sentence asks for a helo to take all SLB personel back to shore. The company man says there are no more helo's scheduled for the rest of the week (translation: you're here to do a job, now do it). SLB gets on the horn to shore, calls SLB's corporate HQ, and gets a helo flown out there at SLB's expense and takes all SLB personel to shore.

6 hours later, the platform explodes.

Pick your jaw up off the floor now. No CBL was run after the pressure tests because the contractor high-tailed it out of there. If this story is true, the company man (who survived) should go to jail for 11 counts of negligent homicide.

Thoughts?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 817395

Why don't we know who the "company man" is? Has he absconded our of our jurisdiction? I'm sure he has.
And isn't "company man" a euphemism for someone who works for the CIA?

I appreciate those posting here who know the industry and technology of offshore oil drilling. You've answered a lot of questions I've had.

What I still don't understand is why the BOP failed, and I presume we won't know that until they bring it to the surface and take it apart. Does anybody know how much pressure is behind that blowout? What would happen if they took a long cylinder of steel with a diameter to fit inside the pipes and heavy enough to match the force behind that oil and dropped it down the well? I assume that there's a good reason nobody has brought that us, but I don't know enough about the situation to say what it is.

Would something like a pile driver be made to function down there?

BP Oil Spill: Clean-Up Crews Can't Find Crude in the Gulf

As Size of Slick Shrinks, Experts Say Oil is Breaking Up, Staying Below Surface

86 days, oil spewed into the Gulf of Mexico from BP's damaged well, dumping some 200 million gallons of crude into sensitive ecosystems. BP and the federal government have amassed an army to clean the oil up, but there's one problem -- they're having trouble finding it.

We will see in deed. It looks like they are going to open up the gulf for drilling again. What they don't understand is that we are stil in THE PATTERN! Anyway, it was a great job using HAARP to squash all the hurracains last year. You better have that baby running smooth because it's only gonna take one to yank that gulf water up enough for the METHANE GAS BUBBLE to breech...and you know what happens next. The summer of hell may have just been delayed. Coming at a theater near you.

Off topic message for the forum moderator.

Phenom has a thread to offer an upgrade.......

I asked what it would take to get my account unlocked.

She said to email you. I have no way to do that.
Not sure what exactly I did so long ago for the lock on my account. Seems to be open still but I cannot get a valid password to login.

I apologize once again and humbly request my account be unlocked.

Sorry for the off topic SHR.

Found your email at base of your post.
I'll try that.

That's quite the write up about the spill,

Another ELE in my opinion. Pacific is just about gone from Fukushima and now the Atlantic is dying.

The carbon eating bio engineered bacteria I find most worrisome. Many cases of flesh eating disease now around the gulf.

I can only imagine the dangers of eating contaminated sea food now.
