Message Subject Unbelievable! Pelosi Suggests To Aspiring Musicians "Quit Your Job, Taxpayers Will Cover Your Health Care"

Where in the health care bill does it say poor people receive free insurance paid by other taxpayers? I thought it required everyone to purchase their own insurance or face penalties? Has something changed that I'm unaware of or have I been misled?

Poor people DON'T receive free insurance. They are FORCED to buy it.

Well, you have to consider all the possibilities. She didn't exactly say you could remain jobless. She said you could quit your job and didn't have to be "Job-locked." Consider the following wikipedia page and consider the word "job-locked".

Maybe she meant you could roam around and not be locked into a 9-5 job, or you could find cheaper insurance, or you could get your own insurance now instead of waiting for a long time for your benefits to kick in. I'm just saying, there are other possibilities than living off the system, especially when you just told me there is no system to live off of.

Okay, it seems my comments have been buried again. (Always happens on this site.) So let me try a different approach.

1. Was this portion of speech taken out of context? Why does it end so abruptly? Has anyone seen the speech? Did she clarify her statements at all? I'm not making accusations here, but this is a very widely-known method of changing the intent of someone's words.

2. Was this speech given to a group of artists or was it given to a general audience? If it was given only to artists, then this is a whole different set of circumstances.

3. She said they considered this an entrepreneurial bill. What is an entrepreneur?
entrepreneur: a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, esp. a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.

If this is entrepreneurial, then did she really mean to quit your job and live in your mother's basement without making money? Or did she mean starting an enterprising business and purchasing your own insurance?

4. She said you could quit your job, that you would no longer be job-locked. What is job-locked? Please see Wikipedia or some other comprehensive source for a full description. Basically it means you are stuck in a particular job for reasons of benefits like health insurance.

Now my question to anyone with extensive knowledge of the Healthcare bill, which I certainly don't, is this. Are there any possible benefits to purchasing your own insurance for anyone starting their own business? Does it make it easier to quit your job and start your own business and still provide insurance for you and your family? Because I think that's what she may have meant here. I don't think she meant living off the taxpayers, because I think a lot of us are aware that this bill doesn't provide free coverage supported by other taxpayers. If she did mean that, then it looks like she certainly is misleading people and setting them up for a fall.

Also, from part 2 above, if this speech was presented to only artists, then it could mean that her statement apply to anyone looking to start their own business, and not just artists. She may have only said artists because she was speaking to artists.

Sorry for the long post.
