Angry Obama Seeks to Deflect Blame for Gulf Oil Spill Crisis
Posted by Chip Reid 389 comments

The president seemed genuinely angry today, on a beautiful spring afternoon in the Rose Garden. Having watched him on a daily basis for about a year and a half, I'm confident he wasn't faking it.

He seems deeply upset about the growing calamity in the Gulf, about the environmental damage, about the irresponsibility of the companies involved, and about their efforts to shift the blame.

"I did not appreciate what I considered to be a ridiculous spectacle during the congressional hearings into this matter," he intoned. "You had executives of BP and Transocean and Halliburton falling over each other to point the finger of blame at somebody else."

President Obama may have decried finger-pointing today, but he also did a fair amount of it himself. Not only at the three companies, but at previous administrations.

Here's what he said today when he turned the finger at the federal government:

"For too long, for a decade or more, there has been a cozy relationship between the oil companies and the federal agency that permits them to drill. It seems as if permits were too often issued based on little more than assurances of safety from the oil companies. That cannot and will not happen anymore." (watch the video at left)

Re: Angry Obama points finger
It seems obama also enjoys quite the cozy relationship with oil companies, since once obama received the 20 billion-escrow money from BP and he lost interest in the oil spill. Are you asking yourself what happened to the billions obama accepted from BP oil and for that matter, the billions collected for the earthquake in Haiti.

Gulf Lawmakers Press Obama for Fair BP Oil Spill Deal

House Republican Jo Bonner from Alabama, and other lawmakers from Gulf states, are condemning a possible agreement between the Department of Justice and BP. They fear it will drastically shortchange their states in the wake of the 2010 BP oil spill.

“The timing of this move certainly begs the question of whether the administration is attempting to structure a settlement agreement to influence votes in Florida at the expense of Alabama, Mississippi and the other Gulf states."

More than half of Haitian quake aid released

An analysis of pledges made at a donors' conference shortly after Haiti's 2010 earthquake revealed that $2.79 billion, or 52.3 per cent of the approximate $5.33 billion pledged by 55 donors for recovery activities between 2010 and 2012, has been disbursed.

The bulk of that money, or almost three quarters, were grants awarded to the Haitian government, non-governmental groups and private contractors.
