I am totally outraged about the mandtory health care bill... if it were covered as much as this oil disaster is, we might be able to put a lid on it also.

Alright I am going to state it. We have lived long enough to see a situation where oil and water actually DO mix!!!!

pretty cool trick if B.P. can keep that shit below the surface. If they can not it may be an interesting hurricane season at the end of July.

WTF does that even have to do with the original post? This situation is so far beyond politics. That gusher in the gulf is going to have devastating impacts on the environment and economy - impacts so vast we can't begin to imagine them.

None of us (or Obama for that matter) is qualified to go in and fix it ourselves. But we can start voicing our outrage publicly.

Got a better idea?

This is 0bama's Katrina. How will he handle it? He the HNWIC of the whole thing.

On last night's thread "giant plumes of oil..) I promised to compose a letter that folks could copy paste and send to their representatives along with a link to contact info. Well, as promised...

[link to www.congressmerge.com]

Dear Congressman (or Senator)__________________:
I am writing today to express my absolute outrage at the handling of the ongoing disastrous and potentially catastrophic Gulf of Mexico oil spill by BP and to plead for your help. The government agencies given the task by the Obama Administration of oversight of the mitigation of this disaster thus far have seemingly given BP carte blanche to perform whatever activities they may choose. To date this has included three failed attempts to recover some portion of the oil from the source of the spill and the addition of dispersant both by aerial application and injection at the leak source. I might add here that not only is the addition of dispersant controversial among scientists as to whether or not it does more harm than good for the environment, adding it at the source has never been performed prior to this incident. These facts make it arguable that BP is doing what is in the best interest of BP and not what is in the best interest of the American people and the environment.

Furthermore, the Coast Guard, Department of the Interior, NOAA and other agencies involved have failed to conduct thorough investigations as to the quantity of oil leaking from the well and the location and extent of oil throughout the entire water column in a timely manner. It appears that they have relied on BP for this information, and clearly BP has distorted, misrepresented and withheld information from the day this disaster began. BP initially claimed that there was no significant leak, then that about 1000 barrels of oil per day were leaking, then, they said 5000 barrels per day, and lately they claim that it is impossible for anyone to know how much oil is leaking into the Gulf. A number of very credible scientists have produced estimates of the oil leak that range between 20,000 and 80,000 barrels per day. The only difficulty in producing an accurate calculation of the volume of oil leaking exists for the simple reason that BP has exclusive access to the site of the leak.

Congressman ________________, this is a very dire situation. This oil spill has the potential to negatively affect not only the livelihoods, but the health and wellbeing of hundreds of thousands if not millions of Americans. If this spill continues unabated much longer, the economic and environmental impact will be felt by all Americans. As soon as is possible an independent panel of experts not beholden to the companies involved should be assembled to make decisions regarding steps to be taken to stop the flow of oil. Action should be taken immediately to remove BP from their position of control of the efforts to stop the leak. Your prompt attention to this matter will not only be greatly appreciated, it is vital if the Gulf, and indeed the nation, are to avoid a cataclysmic disaster.

Sincerely,

Your name

I had given up on the thread earlier, but I'm glad I came back and saw that some people actually did something. Thank you very much for that. I've forwarded the letter to friends and asked them to do the same. The idea of writing newspaper editors is a great one. I'll send it to papers along the gulf coast.

I don't know if the tea party was a real grass roots movement or if it was just a Republican scam from the beginning; no matter because now it's just a money/publicity grab for Sara Palin et. al. But if the good people of this country that oppose the rape and pillage of our nation don't stand up together soon, we will have lost our chance to do so.

One more thing to say. I've seen a lot of posts on all kinds of threads here that amount to this idea of it's all OUR fault. I totally reject that bullshit out of hand. I didn't make all the decisions that led to the corrupt system that we live in. Evil people lead nations to war and use every means they can devise to control and manipulate masses of people. We could have clean energy, prosperity and peace were it not for these evil people. Some might say "we" elected our leaders. We only get to chose among those promoted and financed by the corporate masters. If we are guilty of anything as a people, it's sitting on our collective asses and letting things progress to the point they are now. So, continue to sit on your ass, blame "them" or blame "us" and bitch about this and that, or get the hell up and do something.

If any of you follow things like the Bilderbergs, CFR, Trilateral Commission, etc. you may have already read about the frustration of the NWO crowd over their lack of progress in meeting some of their goals. An informed public is one of the things they fear. People are making some difference.

If America could ever have the Green Party tale power things like this would never happen.
Check out League of Conservation Voters, especially their 'scorecard' section which clearly illustrates which of our politicans are trying to move things in the Green direction:

Guilty as charged, but now that I'm awake, I'm looking in the mirror and making the change.

Handwashing my clothes and dishes, hanging clothes to dry, buying organic or used clothing, gardening, fixing up the bicycles walking more, learning how to live sustainably, looking into solar power etc.

Doesn't hurt to let our reps know we really are concerned too. Thanks op, sorry your thread got so little response. Very sad.

It's a start, not one act, thought or word goes unnoticed.
Blessings!

All are good efforts, but in the end there are only two solutions.., first stop all oil from leaking into the gulf and second, clean up that which as been spilled.

and to be fair anyone in the lower or middle classes who ever voted for republicans (big oil's best friends) being too dense to see they were voting against their own interests in every single way, deserves blame too.
