I can confirm that much of the OP statement is not a million miles form the truth. My wife works as a translator at the EU in Strasbourg and the French are on the verge of leaving the EU. Or so they claim...

Basically the rumour is that French secret service discovered hard evidence that some "interest" killed the Polish government because of their anti-EU stance and resistence to US military plans for their soil. They say the Russians had nothing to do with it, but are furious it happened as it was made to look like they did it.

French officers have already been recalled from EU service. That's much is confirmed. The EU is in a state of limbo. Nobody knows how the French are really going to react or if all this is grandstanding.

The EU would survive if France left but the Euro would be a dead currency.
