I say shut the base, save some money and move those Marines to the hot spots on our Southern border. Marines do what marines do. I'm sure DHS and Border Patrol could use the help.

Maybe we should get out of there and let them defend themselves. We have to much of our military spread out around the world protecting everyone. I really think we should pull back and with draw from a lot of these places and start securing our own country. Yeah, we may be protecting some of these places for our own interest, but I'm sure not all. They want us out, well, let them build up there own defenses again.

Locals from Japan's southern Okinawa Island are growing increasingly vocal against the presence of the U.S. military. Residents have long said they must deal with constant noise created by military aircraft and increased crime from U.S. troops in the area.

Locals from Japan's southern Okinawa Island are growing increasingly vocal against the presence of the U.S. military. Residents have long said they must deal with constant noise created by military aircraft and increased crime from U.S. troops in the area.

And This:

On Sunday, protesters, many dressed in ponchos against the rainy weather, lined up along the barbed-wire fences and city streets on the base perimeter, raising their linked arms and shouting slogans, including "We are against moving the base inside our prefecture (state)."

Why do those two statements appear to contradict each other?

Re: WTH? 17,000 Japanese Circle US Base in peaceful protest
GINOWAN, Japan, May 16 (UPI) -- Some 17,000 protesters formed a human chain around a U.S. Marine Corps air station in Ginowan, Japan, Sunday in opposition to plans to relocate its heliport.

Japan and the United States in 2006 agreed to move heliport functions from the Futenma Air Station to nearby Nago, which is also in the Okinawa Prefecture.

That plan calls for building a pile-supported runway over coastal waters near Nago and moving some military functions to Tokunoshima Island.

The mayors of Ginowan and Nago took part in the demonstration, which was the fifth human chain formed around the base, Kyodo News reported.

A separate protest of the relocation plan on April 25 drew 90,000 participants.

Protesters want early return of the Futenma base to Japanese control and oppose its relocation plans.

"We made it clear to people in and out of Japan that the people of the prefecture are against the government's attempt to change its stance and promote a relocation within the prefecture," said Ginowan Mayor Yoichi Iha.

"We want the government to stick to its (previous) stance of relocating (the Futenma base) at least outside of the prefecture and negotiate with the United States," he said.

Okay, now it makes sense after BlueAcres article. The base must not be being moved far enough away to stop the disturbance and constant noise.

Why the WTH? in your thread title? The war has been over for over half a century...they want their country back and the foreign occupiers out. Most of them probably weren't even alive when Pearl Harbor was bombed, do they NEVER get forgiven because their ancestors did something awful? So did ours, we NUKED human beings. Will WE be forgiven if we won't forgive?

American troops are not an occupying force in Japan. They're a symbol of cooperation. Why do you think the JSDF Navy operates American DDGs? Many of the people of Ginowan want Futenma shut down. So what? Many of the people of Virginia Beach want Oceana shut down.

No, the Japanese didn't weren't going to welcome us to their shores. It was a shortcut to prevent the damn war from going on. America has a problem with winning Guerrilla wars as does everyone else if you didn't notice. Could have been fighting into the damn 50s if The Emperor had not ordered surrender. His advisers wanted to keep fighting after 2 nukes. Not the kind of people that were likely to say at some point, "OK You win!" I don't remember any Germans held up in Caves that thought the war was still going on into the 60s.

We should get out.

What the fuck are you babbling about? Forgiveness, we killed human beings, blah blah blah.

We are in Japan and Korea for the containment of China. That is the sole reason. Not because we have not forgiven the fucking Japanese for bombing us. Christ what morons. Any idea why the Japanese bombed us? Yeah didn't think so, the Japanese don't need any fucking forgiveness.
