I think it's sad the girl was shot. She was too innocent at that age to be involved in such BS! I blame the Grandmom for not cooperating. You will never win in that situation, never. All the grandmom did was create the struggle which discharged the weapon. If the officer wasn't fighting the grandmom, the weapon would not have killed the young 7 year old girl. The cops were looking for a murder suspect for killing a 17 year old student. They had just cause to hunt the murderer and I support what they did to catch the asshole who shoot the 17 year old! |

Epic Beard Guy User ID: 911215 United States 05/16/2010 05:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why do these "accidental" shootings by police only happen when the victim is black? HUH??? TELL ME THAT!!!! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 836696This is what happens when you "tussle" with an armed police officer looking for a dangerous criminal. IF the victim is always black, maybe that says something about who thinks it's a good idea to "tussle" with cops doing their jobs. I doubt the victims are always black, but the victims are always stupid. Unfortunately, sometimes innocent bystanders are often the ones hurt when stupid people start shit with cops. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. "America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards." -- Claire Wolfe |

If the police had correct intelligence, a home invasion would not be necessary. High risk entries are not necessary except for a hostage situation. Unfortunately, these seriously immature police are looking for excitement and the adrenaline rush. The cops were looking for a murder suspect for killing a 17 year old student. They had just cause to hunt the murderer and I support what they did to catch the asshole who shoot the 17 year old! Quoting: ºCRAPºThere was no excuse for this murder. Was this guy that dangerous? and if so, why put the family at risk? why not just have a few cops wating outside and wait for the guy to come out? It seems to me that there are lots of different ways this could be done. I am not sure why this assault on a place is the only choice? |

BRIEF AND TO THE POINT User ID: 970817 United States 05/16/2010 06:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | She was probably drugged....how else did she sleep through the noise? Quoting: FatalWishesDamned drunken seven year olds...She was probably pregnant too... Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it! when you rob Paul to give to Peter ... ... ... you will always get Peters support! :Brieffromnativea: |

There is no "accidental" shooting when police break into your home with loaded weapons and flashbang grenades. This shooting was intended. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 780600 United States 05/16/2010 06:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The purpose of a flashbang is to disorient. The girl was probably awake and totally freaked out, so she froze in place. That she didn't move from the couch does not mean she was asleep. What kind of morons are saying that? What I can't understand is this: If they threw a flashbang, then why do they expect people not to struggle legally? You can't hear after it goes off, not well at least, and ten officers running in with guns will look a lot like ten attackers running in, because you will be partially blind as well. Wouldn't you struggle in that scenario? You should not be held legally responsible for the actions of others. In legal terms this is ALL on those attacking at the time, making other responses unlikely. The shooting of the girl WAS probably an accident, but the grandmother should not be held for "Tussling" with the Police, when they used weapons to disable her ability to discern who they are and what they are doing... Right? |

germanbini User ID: 934453 United States 05/16/2010 07:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The following are unedited remarks as prepared for delivery by Assistant Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee this morning about the police shooting of a 7-year-old girl on the city's east side. Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans is on vacation. Remarks by Assistant Police Chief Ralph Godbee As you all know, we have some very tragic news to report this morning involving a fatal police involved shooting of a seven year old girl. Because of the extremely painful nature of this incident, we felt it was important to come forward as soon as possible to discuss what we know at this point and where we go from here. I first want to express to the family of Aiyana Jones the profound sorrow that we feel within the Detroit Police Department and throughout this community. We know that no words can do anything to take away the pain you are feeling at this time. This is any parent’s worst nightmare. It also is any police officer’s worst nightmare. And today, it is all to real. Before I discuss the incident from last night, I need to set the stage somewhat so everyone can know why our officers were at this home in the first place. I ALSO MUST STRESS THAT THIS INFORMATION IS PRELIMINARY. WE HAVE REACHED NO CONCLUSIONS OR MADE ANY FINAL DETERMINATIONS. Shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14th, 17-year-old Jarean Blake, a student at Southeastern High School, was gunned down in particularly brutal fashion in front of a store - and in front of his girlfriend - on Mack Avenue near St. Jean. After being shot, he managed to stumble across Mack Avenue before he collapsed and died. Our homicide investigators worked thoroughly and tirelessly since then to identify the suspected shooter in that case, who is a 34-year-old male. Based on intelligence gathered by our investigators, we obtained a search warrant for 4054 Lillibridge on the city’s east side as a location that the suspect was believed to be hiding out. This search warrant was vetted and approved by the Prosecutor and a magistrate. (see full remarks: [link to www.freep.com] ) Life is a comedy to those who think, and a tragedy to those who feel. - Horace Walpole |

"As the lead officer entered the home he encountered a 46-year-old female immediately inside the front room of the house. Exactly what happened next is a matter still under investigation, but it appears the officer and the woman had some level of physical contact. At about this time the officer’s weapon discharged one round which, tragically, struck seven-year-old Aiyana Stanley Jones in the neck/head area. Officers immediately conveyed Aiyana to St. John’s Hospital while others apprehended the suspect and cleared the rest of the residence." Translated: Cop entering door with weapon drawn, knocks into woman. Scared child under blanket curled in fetal position because she's scared, see's her Grandma pushed by either the door or the cop, sits up, and the flaky cop thinks it's a boogey man and shoots. Odds are the cop is lying. May he have to prove his innocence. |
