Hindu scriptures say oil helps maintain gravity and balance of the earth, in fact there is a story in one of the Hindu scriptures where it is said that ages/eons ago the demons upset the balance of the earth by removing her Blood (oil) , thus upsetting her balance, resulting in the Earth falling into the lower parts of the Universe. And it was recovered by incarnation of Vishnu after fighting with the demons.

* I am not a Hindu, much in these stories are mythology, however I do find this interesting as the story is in fact quite old and indicates something like this could have happened long long ago.

Here is a partial list of the things we will eventually have to say "good-bye" to, when we get rid of (or 'FUCK') petroleum.

1. Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline-- that's a fun one)

2. The automobile, including so-called hybrids. Park it and take public transit instead. Or some kinds of public transit. Other kinds will be gone too.

3. Bicycles. Yep, because of the tires (oil based.. no more rubber trees) and the paint dyes, various lubricants, etc, etc.

4. Pharmaceuticals, including Vicodin, Oxycodone, hydrocodone and the others
that both help and hurt you. This means both tablets and capsules. You can thank the Rockefellers for creating this monstrous monopoly.

5. Vitamin supplements when they are in the form of tablets or capsules.

6. Anything made of plastic. That's a real long list, obviously.

7. Cell phones, because of the plastic and other components. That's OK though because we are about to be hit by a massive epidemic of brain cancer from that.

8. Most clothing, due to the dyes in it. Get ready to dress like the Amish.

9. A vast and wide range of industrial chemicals. These are used to make the products which make life easier.

10. Computers, because of all the plastic components and numerous other parts and chemical products involved in the manufacture and usage.

11. Television. Same as above.

12. Radios. Ditto.

13. Crayons. Most of them are mostly petroleum anyway. That one will be tough to let go of.

14. Airplanes. No more air travel of any kind. Not only the kerosene but parts and applications too numerous to mention.

15. Combs and brushes. Well, any of them that are painted or plastic, anyway.

16. Virtually all modern farming. This is both because of the fuel needed to harvest the crops and livestock as well as the herbicides, pesticides and whatnot.

OK, that is enough for now. You get the picture.

Realize, it is wise not to take a stand on this issue, one way or the other. There are many valid an logical arguments either way and across the spectrum. In fact, we would be healthier without oil, both in the short run and in the longer run.

But we would also be a lot less comfortable, at least for a while. Oh yeah, most heating and air conditioning would be gone too, both because of the functioning of these and for the various parts and components in the systems themselves.

Plastics can be produced from vegetable oils and are then biodegradable and non-toxic.
Alternative energy sources are available. The oil companies probably own the patents which they then suppress. These are most likely to be cleaner and infinite.
These could power our transportation systems from personal cars, buses, trains, trucking, shipping and aircraft. Same with agriculture equipment.
Pharmaceuticals were synthesized to replace the natural source such as opium.
Traditional dyes from natural sources.
Organic farming would become more viable with cheaper, cleaner energy sources powering the equipment to transport compost, etc. Who wants to eat food with artificial fertilizer (polonium?) pesticides and herbicides anyway?
Some oil could be used to manufacture synthetic rubber or whatever natural vegetable sources could not supplant.
