We've already watched a MONTH of cover-ups... stuff we couldn't see or verify if we wanted to.. we just had to take their word on it.

Well, when it starts washing-up affecting your area directly.. I think we're formidable enough to outstrip the MSM in real-time REAL coverage.. the Truth is important.

This is going to be a months/years/FOREVER kinda thing.. one that'll worsen by the day for who knows how long..

I'm gonna start an 'Official' (never done one of those) GLP thread for GLPrs on the coast & in affected areas to post pics & stories... something we can all watch develop together from the 'first-hand' perspective without MSM filtering & lies..

Gulf oil spill may be 19 times bigger than originally thought

WASHINGTON — The latest glimpse of video footage of the oil spill deep under the Gulf of Mexico indicates that around 95,000 barrels, or 4 million gallons, a day of crude oil may be spewing from the leaking wellhead, 19 times the previous estimate, an engineering professor told Congress Wednesday.

The figure of 5,000 barrels, or 210,000 gallons, a day that BP and the federal government have been using for weeks is based on observations of the surface slick made by satellites and aircraft. Even NASA's satellite-based instruments, however, can't see deep into the waters of the gulf, where much of the oil from the gusher seems to be floating. The well is 5,000 feet below the surface.

The Gulf of Mexico, where i spent my entire childhood, fishing, playing on the beach, trips to Ship Island, Cat Island on my friends boats......its all gone.

Dude, there are countless cubic feet of flammable gases rising into our atmosphere and a strong hurricane season rolling in that will be packing serious lighning and sprites.

We may see our skies on fire and witness the hurricanes draw this oil up and destroy all the crops from the midwest to the eastern seaboard and contaminate half our nations water supply.

It doesnt get much more serious than this

Hey Scrump, perhaps people could also report health effects on this new thread. Would be helpful for everyone in the affected areas to know about, and to take precautions. Might suggest that those affected get some activated carbon breathing masks (google search). If the fumes get thick enough, they will eventually get indoors. Air purifiers with activated carbon filters linked at bottom.

The Gulf is not gone. That is bullshit.

This oil spill is a problem, yes. But it is temporary, not permanent. Duhhh!

If the Gulf is "gone" then the Pacific is gone too, because of Exxon Valdez, which happened in one small corner of the Pacific.

And the Persian Gulf is now gone too, it no longer exists in fact. Why? Because when Saddam Hussein set all of those oil well aflame at the end of the 1991 Gulf War, because he was pissed that he lost so miserably, the oil drained down through the Shatt Al Arab waterway and into the Persian Gulf, thus destroying it forever.

Nope. Not gone and this whole thing is being way overhyped. Yes it is an environmental mess.. at present. But it WILL be cleaned up, the well will be capped, just like all of the other underwater oil wells that have blown up around the world in the past, the crisis will pass and eventually it will even be forgotten.

Twenty years from now, when you ask kids who live in the region what they know about the great oil spill of 2010 they will say: "What oil spill? Oh wait, yeah, I think I heard something about that once.. in science class..."

You will be able to go to Cat Island again. And by this time next year, someone could offer you $1 million if you can find one speck of oil from last year's spill and you'd still walk away penniless.. and frustrated.. unable to find a scrap.

Even without the help of humankind, nature heals everything, sooner or later. And the Earth has seen calamities hundreds of millions of times more powerful and more damaging than this oil spill and has healed all of the damage completely, not leaving a trace. But humans are working day and night trying to limit the damage here so that is a bonus.

Remember the great Ixtoc spill of 1979, in the Western Gulf of Mexico? Didn't think so because even though it plastered the beaches from deep into Mexico and all the way up to the Upper Texas coast with oil and countless huge blobs of tar, it is long disappeared now and not a trace remains.

I gotta say if nothing else, this proves peak oil to be a hoax. If a single well can produce more than the entire worldwide demand for oil (which is 85k barrels/day), there is no shortage of oil. That works out to about a cubic mile of oil per year.
