Quoting: Anonymous Coward 926204. Sorry---I don`t ever remember that...all I remember is everybody was given plenty of warning about getting out of the city but THEY didn`t...They had at least 5 days to evacuate..people made their own choice in that one I beg to differ, the order to evacuate was not give until Saturday night, the storm hit early Monday morning. My math says 2 days, not 5. . . And Saturday night to Monday morning in reality only leaves one day -- Sunday -- to move a massive number of people. . Oh BULLSHIT---it was all over the weather channel for at least 5 days...and who would need the government to tell ya when ya should leave when ya live below sea level and there is an CAT 5 hurricane comming at ya..give me a break... Moral to the story......don't wait for the Government to tell you what to do..... Exactly--Thank you... and to the other poster who said something about them blowing up the leevies...give me a break on that too..geezus where do ya folks come up with this stuff in your twisted little minds...probably enough guns going off around town and transformers blowing up to sound like a full scale war zone...poor people have feet just like wealthier people...I would have been the first one leaving town... let`s see..cat 5 comming at ya---your under sea level already--you are surrounded by leevies which was all over the weather channel and local news stations talking about wether they`ll hold or not.... Shoot that`s like sitting in a bathtub at the bottom of a swimming pool drinking a cold beer while a guy out by the edge of the pool is cutting down a 500 foot redwood and it`s getting ready to fall right on ya...I guess ya just stay and finish your beer until somebody tells you to LEAVE...lmao....Now back to the orginal thread... |

Estimates of the rate of BP's Deepwater Horizon oil spill by skyTruth.com, put more accurate numbers at more than 1 million gallons a day, based on satellite and Coast Guard images. Since the April 20th explosion, which resulted in the sinking of the rig, there has been more than 21 million gallons of oil pumped into the Gulf of Mexico. The evacuations will be necessary for the elderly and those with respiratory problems along much of Florida’s coast, including the Tampa Bay area, if plans proceed to set the massive, approaching oil slick on fire, according to Oilprice.com. My thoughts have been that if the sea bed collapses, much of the entire lower 48 would drop in the drink. On the other hand, if the reservoir of oil were to be emptied, the sea water would fill it, but might drop the water level along the beaches. Just thinkin'...again. Your thoughts? . |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 748710 United States 05/20/2010 12:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Benzene exposure has serious health effects. Outdoor air may contain low levels of benzene from tobacco smoke, wood smoke, automobile service stations, the transfer of gasoline, exhaust from motor vehicles, and industrial emissions.[21] Vapors from products that contain benzene, such as glues, paints, furniture wax, and detergents, can also be a source of exposure, although many of these have been modified or reformulated since the late 1970s to eliminate or reduce the benzene content. Air around hazardous waste sites or gas stations may contain higher levels of benzene. Quoting: Rev. Moon JewThe short term breathing of high levels of benzene can result in death, while low levels can cause drowsiness, dizziness, rapid heart rate, headaches, tremors, confusion, and unconsciousness. Eating or drinking foods containing high levels of benzene can cause vomiting, irritation of the stomach, dizziness, sleepiness, convulsions, and death. The major effects of benzene are manifested via chronic (long-term) exposure through the blood. Benzene damages the bone marrow and can cause a decrease in red blood cells, leading to anemia. It can also cause excessive bleeding and depress the immune system, increasing the chance of infection. Benzene causes leukemia and is associated with other blood cancers and pre-cancers of the blood. Anonymous Coward User ID: 973502 United States 05/20/2010 01:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | WHY THE FUCK DO YOU LIVE SO FAR FROM WORK!? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 975716Two years ago I just sold my apartment and bought one 1,3 kms from work. It takes me only 15 minutes walking or 7 minutes by bike to go to work. Why the hell most people don't do this!??? Here it would be about affordability. My family owns our home and land, several acres. Bought and paid for. The closest jobs would be 8 - 10 miles and there are few to none, and low wage. The better jobs are anywhere from 32 to 65 miles away. But there would be no way we could have afforded to own our own property close to any town or city. Apartments, rent - that was out of the question. We set a goal to buy land and not be subject to rent and mortgage which can be taken from you so easily in todays economy. It may be convenient to live in a town or city within walking distance from work, but it's not going to go that well if things got really bad. That is when the people living miles away from jobs and having land will have the best chances to make it through turmoils. Could your job be done at home by computer? Or even part time by computer? Some people work 4 days a week at 10 hours a day freeing up one day they don't have to commute. That would be 52 days a year freed up. Is there any flexibility at your job at all? Other than that at least you own your land and home. That is a real plus! |

At 5:00 AM EDT, the eye of Hurricane Katrina was located just offshore of southwestern Florida over the Gulf of Mexico ..... and Katrina was upgraded again to a Category 1 hurricane. In the early afternoon, the National Hurricane Center officially shifts the possible track of Katrina from the Florida Panhandle to the Mississippi/Louisiana coast. Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco declared a state of emergency for the state of Louisiana.[2] The declaration included activation of the state of Louisiana's emergency response and recovery program under the command of the director of the state office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness to supply emergency support services. Following the declaration of a state of emergency, federal troops were deployed to Louisiana to coordinate the planning of operations with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).[3] 922 Army National Guard and 8 Air National Guard are deployed Saturday, August 27, 2005 By 5:00 AM EDT, Hurricane Katrina reached Category 3 intensity. At 10:00 AM EDT, officials in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, St. Tammany Parish, and Plaquemines Parish ordered a mandatory evacuation of all of their residents. Jefferson Parish and St. Bernard Parish ordered voluntary evacuations, recommending that all residents evacuate, particularly those living in lower areas. Jefferson Parish officials did declare a mandatory evacuation for the coastal areas of Grand Isle, Crown Point, Lafitte, and Barataria. Tolls were suspended on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway as well as the Crescent City Connection, to speed up the evacuation process. At 5:00 PM EDT, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin announced a state of emergency and a called for a voluntary evacuation. He added that he would stick with the state's evacuation plan and not order a mandatory evacuation until 30 hours before the expected landfall. This would allow those residents in low-lying surrounding parishes to leave first and avoid gridlocked escape routes. However, he did recommend that residents of low-lying areas of the city, such as Algiers and the 9th Ward, get a head start. While we were out there my nose and the back of my throat began to burn as I inhaled the putrid smelling air. My eyes were also burning...Everyone on the boat was ready for some clean air.
