My dad just got back from Wyoming and he says a coworker of his got called up this week and that the guy heads out this weekend. No confirmation on which unit. Just that a guy got called up.

There's your best chance for not only the reason for this call-up (if it is true, which is not very likely).

And the Korean situation actually represents something almost close to a real chance for "doom," or at least something that could possibly become a bit too scary for comfort.

Another possibility that is far more likely has to do with something that is, at least here, rather boring actually. Wait for it....

Iraq. Or Afghanistan. Or possibly both.

Don't forget that all that is still going on and is still a very real problem. Or at least the use of National Guard troops to fight overseas (which was never intended except in extreme emergency situations) is still very real. And still a problem.
