Did BP send hundreds of workers to Grand Isle today to tidy up for President Obama's visit? Some people question the timing of a big clean-up today.

This just shows more of BP's lies and cover ups. Also these workers left right after the president left. I got this article from wwl. Busloads of workers arrived on Grand Isle this morning and began scooping and bagging sand.

"Today, there was an influx of about 400 additional workers," said Jefferson Parish councilman John Young. Young says they had been asking for more help for days. He just finds it odd that helped arrived hours before the president of the United States.

NOAA expands closed fishing area in the Gulf

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (WLOX) - NOAA has extended the closed fishing area in the Gulf of Mexico to include a large area of oil sheen patches crossing the eastern edge of the current boundary, as well as an area currently outside the southern boundary which a small portion of the sheen is moving toward.

Closing fishing in these areas is a precautionary measure to ensure that seafood from the Gulf will remain safe for consumers.

The closed area now represents 60,683 square miles, which is approximately 25 percent of Gulf of Mexico federal waters. This leaves approximately 75 percent of Gulf federal waters still available for fishing. The closure will be effective at 5:00 p.m. CDT.

Thanks for posting this A7.. this is exactly the kind of thing that needs to be in this thread.

The only "clean-up" that BP & DC are doing is hiding the die-off's... and keeping the majority of the oil subsurface (for now).. they've been hiding the true scale of this from the 1st moment.. they want to make SURE that it's too late for anyone to do anything, before the scope of this Disaster is realized.

That was my first thought when I viewed the video ... "Is this natural, to have these all in one place like this? ... Or have they been dumped here?" ...

I suppose the current might have swirled them into one place, but it seems more logical that this is a man-made dump site for "dead fish clean-up".

when the oil covers Destin's beaches the cover comes off this coverup and TSHTF as the world wakes up to a huge dose of the brutal reality that this situation is completely out of control....there is big money in the Destin real estate market that will get vaporized overnite....lots and lots of second homes for the well off here...they will not be amused

When I watched the vid, I thought it was probably actually remnants of a BIG die-off that had beached & what was found was just some that had been left by accident (overlooked) by BP's cover-up crews..

When it does, document it & post it here DG, if you would.. it's gonna wipe-out entire sections of the Gulf Coast (& maybe beyond, IMO) through the loss of so many sea-based industries.. not to mention tourism & real estate (ironic, as a 'Visit Florida! Our Beaches are Clean!' commercial is on right now.. the oil's in the Loop Current.. it'll reach Florida's Panhandle tomorrow.. and still it flows.. MORE.. since they're cutting the riser right now.. with the mass already on the surface:

This is from May 14.. they were mainly considering the Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama areas in this article, most likely NEVER imagining the flow continuing into Christmas or beyond..

600 Species Of Animals And 20 Wildlife Refuges Threatened By Gulf Of Mexico Oil Spill

More than 600 animal species are threatened by the ever growing Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Louisiana's Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has stated that the threats affect 445 species of fish, 134 birds, 45 mammals, and 32 reptiles and amphibians.

One of the biggest fears centers around the brown pelican.The Louisiana state bird lays its eggs on the coastal islands. Similar threats might face the piping plover, royal tern and sandpiper.

Major threats surround amphibians and reptiles including Kemp's Ridley, an endangered sea turtle, is seen as threatened because its migration for the nesting season, which has begun, is cut off by the oil slick.

Alligators, frogs and sea snakes face threats as well.

Sea mammals on the imminent danger list include the bottlenose dolphin, manatee and several species of whales.

Land mammals including coyotes, raccoons, deers and foxes could also be endangered as their habitat is polluted.

Endangered species of fish include the bluefin tuna, red snapper, tarpon and cobia along with crabs, shrimp and oysters.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have issued verbal concerns for the fragile wildlife of the Gulf coast.

As many as 20 National Wildlife refuges threatened by the oil spill, and rare and endangered species such as sea turtles, manatee, sea birds and Gulf sturgeon all in danger.

The dangers to the birds of the area are so great because they are now nesting and turtles are starting to come ashore to lay eggs.

Booms to capture and deflect anticipated oil are being deployed at Breton National Wildlife Refuge, where thousands of brown pelicans and shorebirds are currently nesting.

In all 20 National Wildlife Refuges could be affected.

The second oldest wildlife refuge in the country, Breton was established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1904. He visited in 1915, the only refuge he ever visited.

Breton, which includes Breton Island and all of the Chandeleur Islands in St. Bernard and Plaquemine Parish, LA, provides habitat for nesting wading birds and seabirds, as well as wintering shorebirds and waterfowl.

23 species of seabirds and shorebirds frequently use the refuge, and 13 species nest on the various islands.

In addition, to nesting birds and sea turtles the Gulf sturgeon are congregating in coastal waters for migration and manatees are migrating back into summer areas.

The Nation Wildlife refuge Bon Secour contains 7,000 acres of wildlife habitat for migratory birds, nesting sea turtles and the endangered Alabama beach mouse.

Its beaches serve as nesting sites for loggerhead and Kemp's Ridley sea turtles. More than 370 species of birds have been identified on the refuge during migratory seasons, including ospreys and herons.

The Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge, located in coastal Mississippi and Alabama, was established in 1992.

The 10,200-acre refuge partially overlays the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

Species found at the refuge include the gopher tortoise, red-cockaded woodpecker and brown pelican.

Many species of wildlife, some already threatened or endangered, will face a grave risk from the spill.

Ground surveys this past week at Breton National Wildlife Refuge, a 5,000-acre wilderness area, found more than 34,000 individual birds including roughly: 2,000 pairs of brown pelicans; 5,000 pairs of Royal Terns; 5,000 pairs of Caspian Terns; and 5,000 pairs of feeding, loafing, and nesting gulls and other shore birds.

They are now sitting targets for the growing slick that is headed for the shores.

Oil washing into Mobile Bay, Alabama!

Fort Morgan, Alabama -
Globs of oil are washing into Mobile Bay and onto the white-sand beach on the eastern side of the bay at Fort Morgan.
The coin-size globs could be seen Thursday in the water rolling along the bay's bottom, and the soft, brown goo glistened in the sun on the sand near the historic Civil War fort.
A hired cleanup crew waited nearby to begin work while two volunteers went ahead cleaning up the mess.
The oil spill from the exploded BP rig in the Gulf of Mexico has been spreading north and east in recent days toward the bay and the beach resorts at Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and the Florida Panhandle.
At Fort Morgan, dark patches of what appeared to be oil hung in the surf just offshore. The beach was mostly deserted except for birds and crabs.

MOBILE, Alabama - Governor Bob Riley blames The Coast Guard for not giving the authorization needed to better protect Alabama's barrier islands from oil. "The problem is there's not enough boom", says Riley. The Governor says The Coast Guard wrongly decided to give boom planned for Alabama to other states.

This should be a message to the people of Florida. Don't believe it when they tell you its all under control and they are doing everything they can. If you want something done right, do it yourself! The coast guard is working for BP and not the people of the US (should be another criminal investigation). The name should be change from USCG to BPRG (British Petroleum Reputation Guard). Wonder how much money BP has paid Thad for his cooperation in this delicate matter? BP does not care about you or I or anything in the way of their precious oil. So don't look for any help from either of them.

In a year from now, we should see what kind of lifestyle Admiral Thad Allen is living.

Thad Allen should destroy himself for collaboration w/ the killers of our Nation & Planet & go-ahead & claim his just-rewards...

Like... now (yesterday).

He'll find out his Prize for his 'good works' on behalf of all of us later, regardless.

I think the CEO of BP (aka British Pollution) should be forced to have a LARGE photo of the above hanging in his office until this mess is cleaned up.
