Sorry to say, but those supertankers will not provide much help. The majority of oil is under the surface and not reachable, they do not know where the oil is heading.

What we are seeing on the surface is about 5% of the total.

The situation is far more grave than is realised.

Even the small amount of oil you can see being washed up into the marshlands will have a huge impact on the environment. Not only are you seeing oxygen depletion from the oil happening but the same also applies for the ability of oxygen generation ,this is a two fold effect.

The precious life on the surface and under is being starved of sunlight thus slowly killing all below. The impact is magnified in relatively stagnant water.

Marshlands have a major positive roll-on feedback towards the extended environment and I am afraid to say that the damage already done will have long term effects that will not be so observable or obvious for some time (the chain reaction has begun).

This is just one small aspect of damage that is ensuing from roughly 3% of the total oil that is flowing into other very sensitive systems.

Oh, they will do anything to cover up the long term effects that are already under way. Generally, people forget things over time.

Record, Document and track the changing environment is a key to making these guys accountable for the full extend of damage.

I don't know if we are hearing more info in Houston than the nation at large, but we may be. These companies are in our back yard so to speak. If I pick up anything local, the link will be posted here.

After hearing the local news, and also hearing Cris Matthews on Leno, I have come to the conclusion that BP really is not doing anywhere near all they can to contain this. I know, no surprise.

I'm sensing much more urgency about this now. If no one else has said it yet, let me be the first.

We, as in the US, need to remove the BP officials from the scene. By force if necessary. Not joking one little bit here.
BP could have killed this well early on, but they did not. We all know why.

Then, US only corporations with know how, other than Halliburton, must take over the operations of the well shut down, getting that done now.
It's time for the US, private citizens and corporations, to move on this ASAP. Get BP out of there.

We have military equipped with state of the art tech. They could target this thing with a laser, microwave, something, and clamp it down. Melt it shut. that's probably too simplistic, but there it is anyway.
 Quoting: Texas Uncensored

This could've all been mobilized & accomplished IMMEDIATELY if the Obammy boys would've wanted it that way... then send BP the bill.

They don't want it that way.

Thanks for the participation TU :)

In a couple of months when we really know where we're at, the info collected here might just be pretty formidable.

Who knows?

Maybe the right info or the right pic/vid or a combination of things that wind up here will be useful in a Lawsuit that someone files?

Be really cool for GLP to be involved in kicking BP in the nuts like that.

It would take a change of the Administration, a freakin Miracle (the new Administration not being corrupt), and an entire group of non-scumbag Congressmen, Senators.. all the way down to the Prosecutor.. for anyone (actually) responsible for this Disaster to be Jailed.

Not being corrupt? LOL...Gosh don't we wish Scrump. And BTW, what happened to Scott Brown? Why the hush hush on his part all of a sudden?

I can't update tonight but I will be on Anna Marie island (just south of Tampa Bay)for A birthday party next Saturday the 29th. I will take pictures and video of any Tar Balls or Oil on beaches. I also will be able to talk to a few deep sea and inshore fishing captains that run out of Tampa. I will be asking questions about what is going on 100 miles out.

The oil reaching the study areas within three months of the spill had in general not undergone changes in metal contents reflecting significant differences in metal mobilization. Its V to Ni ratio suggested moderate biodegradability.

As expected, the degree to which the study areas had been affected, as reflected by the TPH contents of the polluted soils, differed widely. However, all the polluted soils exhibited, as the main macroscopic effect of the pollution, a dark, compact crust with significantly lower porosity and greater resistance to penetration than those of unpolluted soils at the same sites. Pollution also significantly lowered Eh and intrinsic permeability, raised hydrophobicity, and increased between 2- and 2500-fold the concentrations of Cr, Cu, Fe, Pb, V, and Ni (except the Ni concentrations in the least polluted soil). The lowering of Eh will have contributed to these heavy metals being found almost exclusively in insoluble forms.

Because of the vulnerability of the vegetation of these marshes to mechanical oil removal methods, cleanup procedures should concentrate on enhancing the biodegradation of the oil. The advantages of bioremediation must nevertheless be balanced against the prospect of its releasing high concentrations of toxic heavy metals into the ecosystem, and in considering costs and benefits it must also be kept in mind that release of heavy metals could also be induced by changes in soil acidity.

BP could pay entire cost of cleanup with 3.8 days of profits

By John Byrne
Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 -- 1:35 pm

British Petroleum, the company whose drill site is spewing thousands (Scrump Edit: MILLIONS) of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico each day, could pay for the entire costs of its cleanup thus far with just 3.8 days of profits, according to a new analysis.

The Washington Post reported Tuesday that the company is spending about $17.5 million a day on cleanup and mitigation efforts, which are aimed at stemming the flow of oil from a now-leaking well and containing the existing spill. The sum total of the firm's expense has been about $350 million.

This compares with $93 million -- a day -- the company earned in the first quarter of 2009.

Using these figures, the liberal blog ThinkProgress calculated that BP could pay for the entirety of their cleanup efforts so far with just 3.8 days of profits.

"For now," the Post wrote, "at least, BP's prodigious costs combating the oil spill in the Gulf are outweighed by prodigious profits."

[link to rawstory.com]

So...

They make at least 93 Mil a day, but spend only (allegedly spend) 17.5 to save the Gulf.

Criminal.
