If they dont stop this within a year...the deaths will be uncountable....the Atlantic will cease to be an atmospheric moisture supply for anything east of it.
How long do you think lake waters will hold out?

I have been studying the area around the spill meteorologically wise intently now for the last 40 days or so...Cloud cover is already showing signs of dramatic reduction in size and strength when it gets anywhere near the slick.
Now it appears a dome of high pressure is forming over the area. This will begin the stagnation process that may lead to the unspeakable consequences I mentioned days ago.
4 months down the road...the North Atlantic sheens over...get my drift?

They won't stop it man... that's just MHO, but that's how I see this playing out... unfortunately.

This has been a tragedy of 'errors' (read: intentional delays) and lies since the beginning.. it's unthinkable, but has this not gone "worse-case" since the beginning?

Just about every Doomy theory espoused on this site about this incident has come true.. all the "attempts" failed.. we're being 'readied' for the revelation that it's blown-out sub-seafloor as we speak.. and now, the BOP *may* be leaning... BP and DC have done NOTHING.. except hide the severity and quash multiple methods of clean-up.. to the point of stopping various efforts.. and lie... a whole lot of lies.

They cut off the riser at the top of the BOP, increasing the flow rate probably 100 percent.. but they're catching maybe 5... which also brought to light ONE of the many lies.. how do you catch 10000 barrels a day from a well that was supposed to be flowing only 5?

And that being only a minuscule amount of the flow?

I'm just SO sick of this particular Doom... but I think we're only at the Gate of this one.. I think that in 6 months, we'll look back at days like today as the 'good old days'.. 6 years from now... who knows... don't even want to think about it.

Yeah... that's about the size of things.

I checked out the beaches nearest to me last week. No signs of any oil yet. But, I too, noticed that the air is hotter and more stagnant than usual. No ocean breezes off the Atlantic. (Coastal Georgia).

May I suggest for those who are wondering whether the air has dangerous levels of Benzene and other toxins, that you check out your local hospitals. Just wander into the ER waiting room and take a guage of the patients and their complaints. And possibly the number of ambulances that are coming and going. Of course, some will be for other causes, but you could get the sense of what you are not being told about the overall health of your area. Fortunately this is not the "normal" flu season, so if you have people with a lot of respitory ailments or stomach complaints, use your judgement.

Best wishes to those who are on the front lines.

Would people who post here PLEASE SAY WHERE THEY ARE REPORTING FROM??? Somewhere in the US is insufficient!!!

Hurricane season is going to be something to really watch.. I know the 'hurricanes help oil spills' stories, but I also know that Hurricanes cause storm surges.. and the data on whether or not oil or its chemical components could be drawn up into a hurricane is incomplete.

The vapor from this mess is possibly going to be a huge factor in places like LA, IMO... especially below sea-level areas like New Orleans..

Truth is, we have absolutely no idea how this could possibly play-out, as we have no good frame of reference.. this one's different.

AP analysis: BP spill response plans severely flawed


Among the glaring errors in the report: A professor is listed in BP's 2009 response plan for a Gulf of Mexico oil spill as a national wildlife expert. He died in 2005.

The plan lists cold-water marine mammals including walruses, sea otters, sea lions and seals as "sensitive biological resources." None of those animals live anywhere near the Gulf.

Also, names and phone numbers of several Texas A&M University marine life specialists are wrong. So are the numbers for marine mammal stranding network offices in Louisiana and Florida, which are disconnected.

The website listed for Marine Spill Response Corp. - one of two firms that BP relies on for equipment to clean a spill - links to a defunct Japanese-language page.

One of the most glaring errors in BP's plans involves Dr. Peter Lutz, a Florida professor, one of several dozen experts recommended as resources to be contacted in the event of a spill.

Lutz is listed as a go-to wildlife specialist at the University of Miami. But Lutz, an eminent sea turtle expert, left Miami almost 20 years ago to chair the marine biology department at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. He died four years before the plan was published.

They're closing Perdido Pass. Says oil ankle deep near FloraBama Lounge.

""The Pensacola News-Journal reported Wednesday night that the Coast Guard had authorized the closing of Perdido Pass to deploy booms against the oil spill.

Escambia County officials said the substance was ankle deep Wednesday on the beach outside the landmark FloraBama Lounge, on the Florida side of the line on Perdido Key.

...Florida officials were angry at officials in Alabama for giving late word on the heavy oil breaching booms designed to protect inland waterways on that side of the state line.

John Temperilli, a contractor with the Washington-based James Lee Witt Group for crisis management, said the Coast Guard failed to relay the message.

"No one bothered to notify us when they first intercepted the oil coming through the pass. Perdido Pass is our back door," he said.""

Coast Guard authorizes closure of Perdido Pass

After hearing sudden reports that an oil sheen and mousse had made its way into Perdido Pass, Escambia County immediately began putting booms in place this afternoon to protect inland and environmentally sensitive waterways along the county’s western coast.

Tonight the U.S. Coast Guard authorized the closure of Perdido Pass so booms could be immediately deployed to stop oil from heading into inland waterways. The deployment will prevent boat traffic along the critical waterway.

Perdido Pass is the western gate to Escambia’s Intracoastal waterways, and this afternoon an oil sheen was spotted off Perdido Key near the Florida/Alabama state line.

Escambia County emergency officials said crews are deploying booms at Kees bayou, Holiday Harbor marina, Perdido Key Coves and Russell Bayou. These areas are closed during the deployment operation to boaters.

The order to deploy booms in other county waterways within 72 hours was also given this evening.

The following areas are: Siguenza/Gongora East, Siguenza/Gongora West, Grande Lagoon Basin, Bayou Grande, Bayou Chico, West Arm, Bayou Chico, North Arm, Davenport Bayou, Star Lake, Palafox Pier,LaFitte Cove, Little Sabine Bay.

In the event of oil, the boom will be fully deployed in the areas where it is presently staged... (more at link).
