The problem is people are too distracted... I don't exclude myself from this.. People have to work to pay their rent or mortgage or college loans or bills... And then when they're not working they want to just relax, spend the little time with their families that they get... and they just don't have the gumption to go looking for information about what is happening... So they watch a few blips of news to see what's new, and that's all they know about what's happening in the world... And usually the source isn't so good either.

The media is SUPPOSED to be for the public, work to get us the information we need or want to know... That's what we pay them for after all... However, that isn't the case anymore... I don't know if it ever was, personally.. I haven't been around long enough.

How can people make informed decisions? like whether they believe enough in something to march in a protest, or what politician really supports their points of view, or what is really in a law that is being rushed through congress to get passed... You know, the average citizen does not have the time to sort through all of this stuff and take care of their own life's demands at the same time...

I think it's like that on purpose though...

And it's just this whole post-modern society... Everyone is walking around sort of lost in a fog... Nobody has any personal connections anymore. We spend more time with machines than we do with each other. Just ride any public bus. People are playing on their cell phones or ipods or whatever, but if you actually make eye contact with someone, they look away right away... and you do the same.. because it's uncomfortable to look at another human being in the eye, because you both know that things are screwed up big time, but you don't know what to do about it. It's disempowering... Yet, we can stare at a computer screen for hours and that's okay.. as long as it's not a living entity that can judge me, or challenge me.

But man, I'm sick of it. Sometimes I just want to get up in front of the bus and yell "Hey everyone. I feel like shit is getting really bad. Why are we just sitting around not doing anything about it?" But I don't. I can't. I'm afraid. Afraid that people will think I'm crazy. Or afraid that the bus driver will kick me off, or worse, call the police... Then I'll get arrested... I know it's not right that I can't express myself in a free society... Maybe it's just me, and maybe I am crazy... That's another reason I don't, because I could really just be a bit off the rocker, and I don't want to frighten people.

I think the real problem is fear though. We're all very afraid. There are lots of things we are afraid of too, and I think that's also on purpose. Uncertainty, lack of knowledge. We're undereducated, we're ignorant, but we're not stupid. We KNOW we don't know much... And that's another fear.

Anyway, I didn't mean for this post to get this long, but the thread struck a cord I suppose. And I don't want to put words into anyone's mouth. I do hope our cowardice subsides soon. Peace.
