I imagine you have insurance on your fishing boats/equipment: do you have business insurance, also? It may contain a 'loss of business' part in it where you can make a claim that your biz has faltered due to an outside influence.

Had a little shop a few years ago and when the town was torn up to put new water and gas lines, the street was avoided like the plague. . .we were able to put in a claim.

I'm beside myself over the whole oil leak, it's aweful.

You could move, Hawaii, Montaulk NY and Alaska have great fishing still and may be spared some of the main initial brunt of all this but it's really one huge ocean.

#1 The Bush administration who did not meet an environmental or Oil & Gas regulation it liked and did not, at best, water down, and at worse, remove much to the delight of the "capitalists" and "free market" folks.

#2 Those who will now impose socialism ... taxation on everyone ... by making the taxpayer pay for it. BP will not pay for it. This is an INTENDED CONSEQUENCE. (

#3 Those who think that fish and fowl and wildlife are unnecessary to modern, capitalist life. Even those who hunt them from helecopiters, or laugh about fried spotted owl or turtle soup ... you know the kind ... god gave man dominion, so there is no need to protect at the cost of capital profit and/or kill at will.

#4 Drill, Baby, Drill instead of solar, wind, geothermal, Tesla, conservation, small cars, and make big prizes to Silicon Valley and Cisco and Oracle and Apple and Google on it...done in 2 years, max.

It is political. It is the corporotocracy running the government and taxing/socializing their "mistakes".

Regulation is liberal...spreading the cost between those who are actually responsible, not socializing the "oopsies" amongst the taxpayers.

Environmentalism is liberal. We need dolphins, whales, sea turtles, fish, wolves, crustaceans, algea, et al.

If Florida wants to regard Grand Isle as a laboratory to study the effects on tourism from that dark swill vomiting up from the wreckage of the Deepwater Horizon, early indications look damn near fatal. Grand Isle's mayor closed the beach Friday afternoon but his order was not much more than an empty gesture. An obvious question hung over a mostly empty strand: Closed to whom?

Just across Caminada Pass, a surly Jefferson Parish deputy sheriff guarded the entrance to the beach and wildlife reserve on Elmer's Island, another local tourist favorite, as if keeping the press away would keep the news of the island's defiled sand and poisoned marshes from reaching the mainland.

1300 crab traps is a lot of traps.... the fish are already beginning to disappear... this was a problem BEFORE the oil spill...

Why so optimistic? The oil has gotten into the marshes...the seat of life for the Gulf. Sorry, but I just think this is already completely hopeless.
