awthrawthr User ID: 979614 Poland 05/24/2010 12:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Never been bitten. They avoid me because I bite them first. Actually, MSM (methylsufonylmethane available at health food stores) will supposedly neutralize the poison. Don't know 100% if it's true but I'll sure be slammming it down if I ever get bit. Caution: MSM is less effective against gator bites. For instance, your hand will not grow back. Last Edited by AwthrAwthr on 05/24/2010 12:20 AM Got pain? Free relief. [link to lowerpain.org] |

I also hardly ever get bitten by mosquitoes. ~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~ From ED TV (1999) I feel that Ed (TV) is the apotheosis of a prevailing American syndrome. It used to be that someone became famous because they were special. Now people are considered special just for being famous. Fame, itself, is now a moral good in this country. It's its own virtue. |

You are blessed that it healed, BB. There was a case here in Oregon some years back where a guy had a brown recluse spider bite (on his arm, I think it was), and the hole just kept getting larger and larger. They did a story on it -- with pictures -- about a year or so after the initial bite. Gruesome. :( . . I even gently lift them out of the bathtub and relocate them so as not to harm them... they really do eat the other spiders and keep them away... it's not an urban myth... . . I do that too, Hillcrest. People think I'm nuts ... but I don't care. Daddy long legs are beneficial! . . Anonymous Coward User ID: 375971 United States 05/24/2010 05:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Where do they come from ? Maybe they came with some shipment with illegal Mexisubs or some gooks from Asia. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 979112I heard from produce shipped to U.S. from Mexico, Central America and South America. Local county health Dept. told me that but they also told me that we don't have them in Northern California when we do. They said that they can't survive our cold winters. I got bit by one in my basement. Thought it was just a harmless spider bite. Two days later I left for a trip to see my son graduate from ERAU in Arizona. The bite was just a small red thing on my finger at that point but hurting a bit. Half way there the bite turned into this horrible gross thing that kept growing and you could see fluids swirling around in it. Still kept driving so as not to miss graduation. By the time I got to Prescott I was in immense pain and went to hospital there. They told me it was a brown recluse bite (and even called in a brown recluse expert) and did emergency surgery. My arm had red streaks going up it almost to shoulder. If it had reached my heart I wouldn't be here typing this! The Arizona docs also told me that I was really lucky that I was coming to Arizona after this happened. They said California doctors have no clue. They said to report it to my local health Dept. when I got home but that they'd tell me it wasn't brown recluse. Well that's exactly what the health dept. said. I then called an expert at UC Davis and she told me that we don't have them In Northern California. So if you get bit by one in Northern Calif. get your ass to Arizona! There are up here and survive just fine through winter indoors and in other protected areas. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 928882 United States 05/24/2010 05:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got bit a few years ago. over 6 times, mostly on my arm. I woke up around 6am and noticed it itched, went back to bed. Later I felt weird, my arm was turning bright red, went to the ER. Tons of anti-biotics, steroids, morphine, etc later and I was fine. Got it right away. They drew a pen line around the spreading redness, some infection under the skin. It went 1 inch past the line in 20 minutes. That's when I had all the doctors come in and look, made me feel special. Morphine helped. Now there is just one small patch of skin that's still bright red with all the veins visible in it. If you get bit by one of these f**kers goto the ER ASAP! My infection, if it had gone on a few more hours would have spread to my heart. And then I'd be dead and that would suck. |

Woodsprite User ID: 978911 Sweden 05/24/2010 05:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got bit by one of these in that old house I used to have...the haunted 1 in Spencer Co... I think it crawled out of the closet at the foot of my bed, bit me while I was sleeping, on the forearm. I didn't realize what had bit me, until it was probably too late to go see a DR... It made me very, very sick, for months! Had a huge place that started out a red spot, then the center of it got all greenish looking..got much bigger over time... Ran a fever for weeks.. I got lucky though...I didn't lose any flesh..not even really left with much of a scar from it. After seeing the pics...I can see why all my neighbors were freakin' out , tellin' me I better get my ass to the DR.. Looks like I got very, very lucky.!! |
