Other things eat the bacteria, and, then its gone. The problem is when it washes up on dry land it will take some years for it to decompose. During that time, its an environmental mess.

Fox News just had one of those breaking news things. A fox news reporter has been found dead, floating in the gulf. They should have something on their website soon. This may have something to do with the earlier news about the Navy bomb but I doubt it.

I like the math, but lets try this to make the numbers smaller.

Oceans, Seas, & Bays = 321,000,000 cubic miles of water.

1 cubic mile of water = 1.1 trillion gallons of water

So if we are contaminating 1 trillion gallons of water per day. (per the quoted calculation at 30 days for 30 trillion) For basic sake of math,it would simply take 321 million days to contaminate the ocean completely based on the numbers we "have".

We do not need to contaminate the ENTIRE ocean for a ELE situation to occur.

Still it would take nearly 879,000 years give or take to contaminate the ENTIRE ocean.

However, we ALL know the flow is greater than that. A BP executive conceded that it could be as much as 66,000 barrels per day = 2.9 million gallons of crude entering the ocean.In that case we are contaminating 2,900,000,000,000 gallons of ocean per day.

Now all these big numbers begs the question, how much oil IS down there?
