anonanon User ID: 980255 Switzerland 05/24/2010 01:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Most of the other polls show pretty much the same thing. It just doesn't make sense to set up over a hundred new federal agencies just to give 10%-15% of taxpayers coverage. Most of the bill has nothing to do with health care and the few insurance fixes that are in it could have been passed in a one page bill. Fact is it would have been far cheaper and less complicated if the government just gave every individual taxpayer a $500 per month subsidy/tax credit for a basic insurance premium and give the insurance companies one year to come up with a definition of just what that basic coverage is. The lowest third of income tax individuals would get medicaid. Similiarly, it would have been far cheaper if the federal government had just paid off all individual homeowner's mortgages for their primary residence with a guarantee that they would stay in the home for a certain number of years and could never get a home equity loan/second mortgage on the home. That certainly would have been far cheaper than bailing out the banks and investment companies which then refused to help mortgage holders. Coming up is the energy bill which really will not do much to actually reduce our emissions and certainly will not stop the climate from changing as it always does every few hundred years. It is all about control and power and money as it if you have a dollar, best be prepared to turn it over to the feds one way or another. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 973415 United States 05/24/2010 01:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As someone who pays for insurance for myself and my family, I am for the reform bill. The more people who pay for insurance the better it is for those of us who already pay for it. So perhaps I am selfish, but beleive everyone should have insurance so those of us who do, dont have to fit the bill on all the cheap asses. SInce the majority of people in this country are too cheap to get insurance but will buy a $50,000 car. Im sure that mandated coverage is not popular. |

The reason we are all paying more and more for HC insurance and out of pocket hospital bills is because a high percentage of hospital patients receive care for free (mostly in emergency rooms), and there is little healthcare dollar competition. In time all patients will have coverage forcing healthcare and insurance providers to be competitive, competition lowers cost in a capitalistic economy.. I suggest CNN as the primary provider of accurate news information as well. |
