LouisWinthorpeIII User ID: 836514 United States 05/24/2010 05:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | But dialup in 2010 is rough. I'd look into a satellite hookup if you are in the woods. fuck television, internet is far more important. "I don't know which was scarier...the speech...or the Congress cheering it. Anonymous Coward User ID: 849986 United States 05/24/2010 05:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Computers these days have a shit ton of pre-installed crap trials and what not, No Offense OP but Dial-up is sooo beyond obsolete its not funny, so computer companies just assume everyone has broadband and they install all this crap. In addition to that, your computer probably has like 300 Critical Updates waiting to DL, one of which SP3 (Assuming XP) is like 300MB all by itself... SO, all this crap "comming up" is going to steal what little tiny bit of bandwidth you have. Go to Start -- Run type " MsConfig " and click start-up tab. remove EVERYTHING you don't need like weatherbug, and MSM messenger. save changes, say no to restart dialog. in run box again type " services.msc " find "windows update" right click it, and hit "stop" you SHOULD take the computer to a place with highspeed internet at somepoint tho and allow it to run the updates by re-enabling the update service.. In the meantime this will prevent shit from " comming up " and stealing your bandwidth |
