How many American children is it acceptable to have seriously injured, permanently maimed, and killed by grossly irresponsible illegal alien drivers to save ten cents on a head of lettuce?
not one
Ten cents? Wow! Somebody is making a handsome profit.
Funny is it?
Actually, the issue isnt more expensive "lettuce" but whether you could get lettuce at all...
It's established that migrant ag workers make up 2% of the workforce. The issue is how viable the '3000 mile salad' model was after all. Moving forward with more localized food production is the future.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 974609Localized food production. Good idea. But it seems to be consolidating the other way. The same processes have been accelerating in Mexico since 1994, btw (imagine all those local food producers previously engaged in ag, now looking for work). When US employers have labor shortages the percentages of illegal labor will vary substantially, but without them there would be food shortages on super market shelves AND food would be more expensive UNLESS something is done to mitigate these dependencies...
