He mentioned what I've been saying for days.

The main problem/leak is not coming from the pipe but at the sea floor. And the amounts he mentioned, wow 100,000 barrels a day.

Re: Most Important Oil Spill Video Yet
Matt Simmons is a true insider. I'm amazed he was so candid. So behind closed doors, industry experts are saying that there is a real chance that not only will the top shot not work, but the relief wells may not work either, and that therefore they ought to bomb the damn thing or it will go on for years and suck the oxygen out of the gulf.

If the top-shot does not work today, will they wait a couple of months to see if the relief wells work, or will someone make the decision to go all in with a nuke?

I think they will wait for the wells, because even if the risk of failure with a bomb is small, if that fails, it is "kiss your ass goodbye" time.

Did he say 9000 days?

Yes, that would be about 25 years or so.

Why the hell didn't he just say 25 years?

Who the hell goes around saying they're "9000 days old."

crazy

I think he made a calculation based on the amount of gallons of the gulf divided by the estimated amount of gallons being leaked per day. the amount of gallons in the gulf is 64 quadrillion. we could work this backward to get the estimated flow rate that they really think it is. the guy was pasty white and scared and he is an expert. he is afraid that they will never be able to cap it. and if they can never stop it all life will die in the gulf in 25 years. the important thing to note is that the gas bubbles are rising to the surface and releasing oxygen from the water that would never have been released every second of the day. so the level of oxygen is dropping in that vicinity every second. and death is spreading from that leak.

Re: Most Important Oil Spill Video Yet
I've heard this guy twice now and he says about the same thing both times. He claims that the oil that is being filmed and played for the public is not the critical leak. He says that the leak we are seeing is simply oil coming from the riser which is "probably" still attached to the sunken rig.

I'm not really understanding that premise, however, maybe someone can tell me what he's talking about. How can oil still be spewing from a riser, even a riser that is a mile long, after more than a month? How can oil appear to be spewing under pressure when it is coming from a riser which is attached to the rig only? What he's saying makes no sense.

Again, he said the last time I heard him, that the wellhead or perhaps a "fracture in the seabed", located 6 miles away from where they are filming, at the location where the rig went down, is the critical gusher because that is where enormous plumes of oil appear to be rising and forming on the surface.

He claims the riser is still attached to the rig (the riser is a mile long). He claims they are filming oil coming from the riser still attached to the rig. AND he claims that the wellhead and the rig are 6 miles away at the location of the REAL gusher.

Why is this guy allowed to make these claims without anyone in authority ever commenting, or anyone varifying or denying what he is saying, or even asking him where his information is coming from, or even how can oil just be coming from a riser for a solid month under pressure? How can the riser still be attached to the rig, AND the rig be 6 miles away at the location of the well?

The enormous amount of disinformation about this situation is absolutely maddening.
