I owed thousands to my lawyer and only have like $50-100 left for the whole month. I might get lucky, some friends owe me some cash. Business sucks right now, but that might change if I work hard for the next two weeks. If I work hard for two weeks, I could easily make thousands. But I don't know if I have the creative energy to do that this month. I think I do. It's Annie's macaroni and cheese month for me probably. Don't believe anything I say... I lie all the time. |

I ended up busier that summer than I wanted to be. I don't know what talents you have but if you are able bodied you would be surprised at how much response you will receive from a simple hand-written message from the heart coupled with the simple willingness to work. Put them at ease; Let them know you live nearby, what your situation is. Take no money up front. Do a good job. Before you know it, you will be busier this summer than you ever wanted to be. If you are a clean living person they will pay more, and if first timer (like a finder fee) They will try to talk you into coming back every 6 wks, but the other draws only net 50-60 dollars. I did it for a summer of no money while in college. Drink lots of water an hour before to speed the process. IT does not effect your food stamps or unemployment. |

You should be able to get pasta, sauce, bread, canned veg and maybe some fresh veg. Use $10 a week for milk and butter. Also get some oil - whatever is cheapest. Buy a bag of potatoes and one of onions: You can make bread if you get a bag of flour and a bit of yeast. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 980646 United States 05/25/2010 09:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | For those unemployed/who asked: Ideas to supplement your income or start your own business. Quoting: PhennommennonnThread: For those unemployed/who asked: Ideas to supplement your income or start your own business. I read that Phennommennonn. Pretty innovative. Most of it requires going out and doing labor though. My family is in a similar situation, having no income the past 5 months except tax return only. But in our situation we are very rural and have kids with no one to take care of the kids. So we have to rely on home based business. The neighborhood is tiny and everyone is around here is self sufficient, so there would be no mowing lawns for the kids, no window washing, landscaping, etc. I did take notice of a couple things, the rock sculptures and the wood carving/burning. Those could be done locally. More the wood than the rock. People actually do their own rock around here mostly. But we have Black Walnut which is a beautiful wood and expensive timber. I have thought about making stuff from it, and I do have a few blocks I saved from splitting. I saved them with that idea in mind. Another issue we have is the work we must do on our own property. Right now I just started digging foundation for a small shop room. Everything must be done by hand here, so I'm lugging out dirt in 5 gal buckets. This is for my wifes business she is trying to set up and that I will help her on. The selling seedlings idea I already had... I know where I can get evergreen seedlings very cheap and I've seen the same size sell for twice as much or 3 rimes as much. Or I could grow them in pots for a year and maybe make 4X profit. We have just found that due to our situation we need a home based business we can work from home that does not require going out a lot. Our home in itself IS a full time job. To answer OP, a lot of people are responding about food and she says she has food. It is gas she is worried about. $40 for 2 weeks can make it if there are not long distances to be travelled. But say you need gas? Ok, keeping a small reserve like 5 or 10 gallons is good but if you haven't done that already then what? All I can say is maybe offer a freind or neighbor to clean their house for $30 or something. Pick up aluminum cans, especially if you're in a state where they have the 5 cent deposit. A case of cans = $1.20. I used to make sometimes $5 a day doing that, $10 on the weekend days which was cool since it's easy work - you just need to know where the beer drinkers go and pick up after their parties! You are also helping fix the litter problem. Don't be embarrassed to bend down and pick up a can. You would pick up a penny wouldn't you? Aluminum = money. Also in some local dumps you can take stuff out. Look for aluminum window frames, or any copper or brass material. Take to the scrap metal place. |

Quoting: Johnny RingoThen sell the microwave for gas money? In 2 weeks you will be fine. Remember...there is always someone that has it even worse! Good luck! That reminds me: yard sale/garage sale some of the stuff lying around the house. If you are able to get the traffic. Another thing we can't really do here. We would get maybe 5 people we are so far out! But most people live in places they can do this. Unless you're in some apartment complex where you can't because you're on a 2nd floor or the landlord doesn't allow it. In such cases find a friend with a house having a yard sale, talk with them about putting up some of your stuff for sale. they may do it for free or ask for a small part of the price. I did that once or twice here a few years ago. Even if you can make $20 it's some gas money. |

For those of you who say this is my fault, I would generally agree with you. However, I've been paying utilities and extra rent out of my own pocket for the apartment I'm living in with 4 other guys (5 guys in a 6-bedroom) because I was the only one making enough to cover it. I haven't received a dime from anyone for this gesture. I've been making preparations recently to do what I have to to survive.
