May 25 (Bloomberg) -- Crude oil was spilled off Singapore’s southeastern coast after the MT Bunga Kelana 3 tanker collided with the MV Waily bulk carrier today, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said in an e-mailed statement.
The incident occurred at about 6:10 a.m. local time in the Singapore Strait, 13 kilometers (8 miles) southeast of Changi East, according to the statement. The spill is estimated at 2,000 metric tons, or about 14,660 barrels. Singapore is Asia’s biggest oil-trading and storage center.
“Both vessels are currently anchored in the Singapore Strait,” the statement said. “Work is ongoing to contain and clean up the oil spill.”
