I live in Western Australia and can recall mention of this many years ago. It seems to be similar to another sighting by school students in, i think, Zimbabwe in the 90's.

don't know any witnesses, but lived in the area for many years, competing against Westall primary and secondary school in inter-school sports, 15 years after the sighting that is. I return often to visit family.

i notice the mention on the westall yahoo group of the spaceship building that was erected on centre road sth oakleigh (5 min drive from westall, built sometime in the 1980's?). it's initial design was obviously based on a flying saucer, (we called it the spaceship building as kids), some mistake it for the ice skating rink next door, but it's not.

I remember it being occupied by different businesses over the years. a doctor's surgery at one point i believe.

I never understood that building as a kid, it seemed ridiculously out of place, in a lower-middle class suburb, but it makes perfect sense now!

I believe recent tenants have attempted to make it look less like a flying saucer, but I wonder what the architect had in mind and who owned the property when it was built. maybe they know something?

If you're here Shane. Great work on your documentary. I'm interested to learn more.

Thank you for your comments. Yes, it's a great story - it's amazing that it stayed so hidden for all these years - but that's oral history for you.

There are still witnesses in and around Clayton South, and throughout Melbourne. At last count, I have tracked down 82 witnesses to the flying saucer(s) and 128 to the circle(s) left behind - and I am still at it, contacting witnesses, recording their experiences...very time consuming, but very enjoyable. (I have made contact with 148 students from Westall High School in 1966, but there were about 485 in total - so I have a ways to go!)

Cheers,

Shane.

I have a book, that decribes a sighting with a photo of an ufo in Perth. It was late march or the beginning of april 1966. It stayed for a view seconds above the sea and than it disapeared with high speed. The phoot was taken by an amateur photographer.

Re: WESTALL UFO AUSTRALIA
It was a book, writen in dutch, which describes the yearly important events all over the world. This book covered the year 1966. It said that there were a lot of sightings in that particular year, and maby they are related with Westall.
However they mentioned the name of the photographer, the name is Benedek. Maby this name ring a bell to you? Good luck with your search.

Why would I do that? I remember it well, although I did not attend Westall High School myself. I went to Clayton Technical School in Browns Rd, Clayton North. We lived on Clayton Rd, Clayton South. My sister was 13,and I was 14 at the time.
I remember my sister saying, (the last time we discussed it) how everyone rushed to the fence. The landing site was an area known as The Pines, directly to the west of the school off Rosebank Avenue, Westall.
The Grange is south of the school off Osbourne Avenue and is not visible from the western end of the school. If you check Google Earth, you can see houses lining the western side of Brady Avenue, that street did not exist in 1966. The Pines, where the landing took place no longer exists, a row of houses (on Brady Ave) and factories fronting Rosebank Ave now exist. That area was my turf when I was a kid. :-)

Re: WESTALL UFO AUSTRALIA
I watched this documentary on Foxtel not too long ago.

There was just way too many witnesses to this event, there was no way they could of covered it up. But I guess they did with the destroying of the camera and then tried to brainwash the students.

Found the whole documentary fascinating.
 Quoting: tellebe

This sounds the most correct. I would replace the word "brainwash" with discredit. Most UFO witnesses are discredited because of plausible deniability. "They were not scientists or pilots so their observation skills can not be trusted" is the regular line of thought. Which does not make any sense because scientists and pilots see UFOs all the time.

Hi Mortal,

Thanks so much for that account of what your sister remembers.

Has your sister been in contact with me, do you happen to know? I would love to hear from her if she hasn't. My email is: [email protected] or she can contact me via the Facebook and/or Yahoo Groups pages, as listed in my earlier message. If you or your sister contact me I can give you my phone number to speed things up, if you would like.

I am very interested in your mention of The Pines. Most of the witnesses I have been in contact with have referred to The Pines, but have meant the ones at The Grange, which were, and still are, visible from the grounds of both of the Westall schools. Are you able to indicate to me where The Pines, west of the school, were? Do you mean between the school and the printery, as it was in 1966?

I really do look forward to hearing back from you, and your sister, either here or via my email or web sites.

Does your sister know about the reunion to mark the 45th anniversary of the sightings, which is taking place on 9 April, 2011, at Westall Primary School?

I await your message(s)!

Best wishes,

Shane.
