Quoting: Anonymous Coward 981193Maybe the actual count was 700? Got to travel along the interstate beside one of those shipments a few years ago. Stopping at stoplights beside the truck was spooky. Huge net covered the load and you could see the bees trying to get out. Summertime and hot. Angry bees. Great number of hives and supers, but nowhere near 7,000 count on that 18-wheeler. Truck was loaded to the max. Just remembered once seeing an over the counter hive of bees available for purchase. Packaged in a box about the size of a football. Maybe 7000 of those could get loaded on a truck? |

Dale Bauer of Bauer Honey Inc. in Fertile, Minn., which owns the bees, said they were being shipped to North Dakota after spending the winter in Mississippi. He said that when the Lumina hit the bee truck from behind, some of the hives on the flatbed truck fell to the ground. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 981237 Canada 05/25/2010 11:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Trucking bees around the country from crop to field to orchard is big business. That is one reason why we are losing bees to colony collapse disorder, so much travel is very stressful on the immune system. They should, instead, Quoting: Anonymous Coward 981138encourage bee-keeping in/near the crops/fields/orchards and let the bees remain in place and calm. They have to truck them because their aren't enough bees in the habitat naturally to pollinate our food supply. This is shit , they spread naturally to the favorable places , they just dont like those GMO crops shit and they are right. You dont mess with nature and those who carried those bees understood this if they have a slight spark of intelligence. |

Authorities say a truck hauling 7,000 bee hives was involved in the four-vehicle crash Monday on Interstate 35 near Lakeville, about 35 miles south of Minneapolis. Minnesota State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske says one person died and another person was airlifted to a hospital. The hives housed roughly 17 million bees and were bound for Bauer Honey in northwestern Minnesota. It's unclear how many bees got loose, but several emergency workers were stung. Crews tried to use fire hoses to get them to fly away. Roeske says all lanes were open by Monday evening. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. More likely kill them or take them underground to further fuck up the ecosystem. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 981237No they weren't going to free them, what they do is charge to bring bees to pollinate. This is big business and what people need to start realizing is that pollination isn't a given in nature, it's for sale just like everything else. THERE IS NO SUCH THNIG AS A FERAL BEE COLONY ANYMORE How do I know? I know the people that sell pollination. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 981162NOT TRUE AT ALL. I am a Beekeeper, and belong to a Beekeeper's Association. All throughout spring and summer we receive notices of swarms of bees that have been found in people's houses, in their gardens, trees, you name it. These are "feral" or "free bees" and once they are rounded up, they are then incorporated into hives. |
