Looks like that big machine they were lowering moved to quick towards the bottom and stirred up allot sediment or maybe it was too heavy and punched a hole in the sea floor letting more oil out, i dont know but it doesn't look good whatever happened, the depression where the original pipe was sticking out is huge now, i think the sea floor is collapsing around it.

It looks like they just blew away some debris from the pipe end.

I think the pipes covered again after the last blow out and they're trying to clean around it to stick the tube back. Or it could be oil coming up from multiple fissures.

Yeah, It does not look good. I was wrong, it more than doubled. I hope that was just like a relief bubble and not the new norm because that looked serious.

At about 7:00pm EST, the BP live cam showed a sudden explosive occurrence - possibly two - taking place at the leak site, with the amount of oil increasing rapidly and the color of the outflow changing to a lighter hue.

The camera was quickly cut to a different shot, one that showed a higher-up view of the plume but actually only further illustrated the extremely volatile change that had just occurred. Then it settled on an angle with the view obstructed by another piece of robotic equipment.


By 7:30 the live cam relay had switched to a menu showing multiple monitor feeds, and shortly thereafter CNN pulled the feed entirely and switched to coverage of the Senate floor.


As of this writing - 7:44pm EST - the link to the live cam has vanished from CNN's front page. However, by following the old bookmarked link, the live cam is back online as of at least 7:49pm. The current shot is taken from a greater distance, and if you compare the relative size of the pipe and the plume to screenshots from days past, it's evident the plume is much larger now and seemingly flowing harder

My connection is slow. So it was taking a while for the pic to load. But I saw the initial pic. I had called for my husband to show him the pic and the size of the crater, I flipped back to my GLP window to read some more. When my husband came in I flipped back to the window of your pic. The second one had loaded by that time, yet it was cycling through the first one, then ... When the second came up. I LITERALLY SCREAMED!!!!! IT TOTALLY FREAKED ME OUT!!!!!

Yall dont understand what youre looking at and whats going on. There are no fissures or sea floor collapsing.

You are looking at the end of a pipe. The leak is coming out of the end of that pipe(and some at the top fo the BOP where the pipe is cracked). The source well this all comes from is extremely deep below the sea floor and through rock. There is only one bore hole to the deep well of oil/gas, and the BOP is attached/sits on top of that well hole on the sea floor. This pipe comes out of the top of the BOP and is laid over onto the sea floor where it shooting out crude oil and gas.

The amount of oil/gas being emitted at the end of the riser where the cam was focused went supernova at about 7:20 - 7:30 pm EST.

As I noted earlier, upthread, the amount of oil/gas being ejected increased exponentially, literally exploding out of it.

It's easily 50 - 100 times as much volume as was being emitted earlier.
