I can think of 3 things: - they were testing or actually attemptin the 'top kill' - there was a rapid increase in the amount of thinner liquid gas coming out in relation to thicker crude (hence the change from black to brown) - what was restricting the flow inside the BOP has let go |

Pipe maybe coughed up gas...blew the straw out of the end? Straw could have clogged with debris and the pipe blew out. They will have to re-insert it if so. Yes, it looks like the unchecked gusher it was before they inserted the straw. Keep in mind we are just looking at the end of the Riser pipe here people. Quite a ways from the BOP. |

Its carved out of the bottom because the end of the pipe (which is laying horizontal on the seafloor see?) is gushing out. The flow carved up the seafloor into what looks like around a 12 foot deep carter now. What you really have to worry about is if you see the flow stop out of the riser. That means that the other leak at the top of the BOP has completely eaten through the pipe, and we don't have to worry about the riser anymore. |
