Why no BP invitation to other oil co's to suck up oil?
I don't know why.. if BP is sucking up 5,000 barrels a day.. why no invitation to other oil co's to park a ship on top and suck up whatever they want?.. Just going to waste .. Anyone?

BP claims it's there oil!
Even Obama says it's their oil!

They don't want anyone else to profit during this chaos.

besides the profit factor of sucking up spilled oil you would think that BP would be paying other oil companies to get out there and help with the capping / cleanup efforts

this is a global catastrophe you would think the entire planet should be out there committing resources to stop this thing..

Heard yesterday that many of the large oil tankers that could suck up this oil are full and are waiting for the price to increase so they can sell.

Re: Why no BP invitation to other oil co's to suck up oil?
Why are no other oil companies helping? Because that would take national leadership to step and pool resources instead of saying "it's BP's oil". It would mean that, during a NATIONAL CRISIS, the head of the nation (even if he is just a puppet) would have to step in and start recruiting help and delegating responsibilities in a coordinated way from making sure all shorelines are protected to making sure the equipment needed is being manufactured (the unemployed would be thankful for jobs I'm sure) to making sure the people exposed have the protective gear they need to getting the best minds in there to help BP stop it and the manpower out there to contain as much as possible. This should have been done WEEKS ago.

BP can't do it alone and it's apparent they don't care anyway since toxic dispersants seem to be their first line of defense. When it starts going up the east coast will dear leader still be saying "it's BP's responsibility"?

It might be BP's oil but these are OUR coasts. Our country. It's a national crisis, Obama is the President. At what point to his followers expect him to start acting like a leader? He is passing the buck, busy campaigning for Dems on the west coast today.

Because Obama couldn't lead a little league baseball team. I real leader would be getting engineers fro all the oil companies on this. Maybe some NASA guys.etc. I don't think BP and the Cost Guard are the smartest people in the room right now.

NO WAY will they let independent eyes on the scene.

Imagine Germany or Norway telling the rest of the world the Gulf is destroyed and the disease is spreading. We'd be in a miltary/ diplomatic stand off in weeks.

Why would BP have to invite any other oil company to suck up the oil?

International Maritime regarding salvage rights probably come into play. The oil could be anyone's for the taking. Just get a ship and start siphoning it up.

Something larger is at play here. Otherwise, the Gulf would be filled with tankers from other companies grabbing what they could.

Re: Why no BP invitation to other oil co's to suck up oil?
They shouldn't need an invitation.
There should be a mandate.
They should all be out there doing what they can to clean up the mess. Their reward is whatever they can gain from the use of the oil.
