Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 488861 United States 05/25/2010 11:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | cnn now is reporting breaking news... more danger,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, [link to www.cnn.com] North Korea freezes relations with South Korea North Korea announced Tuesday a freeze in relations with South Korea and threatened military retaliation in response to alleged intrusions into its waters by the South Korean navy. North Korea's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea said it would "abrogate the agreement on non-aggression" amid heightened tensions on the divided peninsular over the sinking of a South Korean warship earlier this year. An official South Korean report accused the Communist North of firing a torpedo at the ship, killing 46 sailors. A North Korean military official accused the South of intruding into North Korean waters in the Yellow Sea from May 14 to 24, the Yonhap news agency reported. "This is a deliberate provocation aimed to spark off another military conflict in the West Sea of Korea and thus push to a war phase the present north-south relations," the official said in a statement, according to Yonhap. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged North Korea Monday to reveal what it knows about the "act of aggression" that sunk a South Korean warship. She also said the United States' "support for South Korea's defense is unequivocal" and that North Korea should "stop its belligerence and threatening behavior." |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 968544 United States 05/25/2010 11:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The F22's are supposed to be in Japan by the end of May ... which means that NK has only a short window of time to move before our air reinforcements start to arrive. Of course a few F22's don't turn the tide ... we also need a bunch of A-10's and helicopter gunships moved into the area if we are going to be able to stop a sudden NK onslaught. Airpower is our ONLY ace if a surprise attack occures ... and it must be ready to go into combat on a moment's notice. btw ANY airfield in the South, including any helicopter base IS GOING TO BE ATTACKED during the first few minutes of any NK invasion by forces and weapons they already have hidden in SK over the last couple of decades. A LOT of aircraft can/will be destroyed on the ground before they ever fly their first mission ... if they are based inside SK. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 879868 United States 05/25/2010 11:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | were starting something big now Quoting: Anonymous Coward 488861The White House said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would travel to Seoul on May 26 to meet with South Korean President Lee. It also announced that Defense Secretary Gates is in “close contact” with South Korean Defense Minister Kim and will meet with him when he visits Singapore in early June to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue, an annual meeting of Asian senior defense officials. Will she show? Face it, NK has nothing to lose, it's dying as are it's people. The US has two wars going on, an oil disaster, is bankrupt and ~3/4 of it's states are bankrupt. Now is the time. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 488861 United States 05/25/2010 11:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | June is start date of first Korean war now its almost June again.... shit... read korean war history The Korean War (1950-53) was a military conflict between the Republic of Korea, supported by the United Nations, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and People's Republic of China (PRC), with air support from the Soviet Union. The war began on 25 June 1950 and an armistice was signed on 27 July 1953. The war was a result of the political division of Korea by agreement of the victorious Allies at the conclusion of the Pacific War. The Korean peninsula had been ruled by Japan prior to the end of the war. In 1945, following the surrender of Japan, American administrators divided the peninsula along the 38th parallel, with United States troops occupying the southern part and Soviet troops occupying the northern part.[22] The failure to hold free elections throughout the Korean Peninsula in 1948 deepened the division between the two sides, and the North established a Communist government. The 38th Parallel increasingly became a political border between the two Koreas. Although reunification negotiations continued in the months preceding the war, tension intensified. Cross-border skirmishes and raids at the 38th Parallel persisted. The situation escalated into open warfare when North Korean forces invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950.[23] It was the first significant armed conflict of the Cold War.[24] |
Returner User ID: 997 United States 05/25/2010 11:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The NKs are under-armed, outgunned, and poorly-fed. The SKs have the support of the US, which has a strong presence in the area. The Chinese have little or nothing to gain by backing the NKs. I predict a long stalemate followed by a gradual grudging stand-down. But then again, I haven't picked too many winners lately, so who knows? |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 488861 United States 05/25/2010 11:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | looks like the same today............ as before as today read history: During the war, both North and South Korea were sponsored by external powers, thus facilitating the war's metamorphosis from a civil war to a proxy war between powers involved in the larger Cold War. From a military science perspective, the Korean War combined strategies and tactics of World War I and World War II — swift infantry attacks followed by air bombing raids. The initial mobile campaign transitioned to trench warfare, lasting from January 1951 until the 1953 border stalemate and armistice. |
