Seldom talked about... sinkholes are by and large a novelty news item unless the result turns deadly. They are usually an unpredictable event, unless one knows the terrain and any possible mining or liquid pumping operations in the vicinity. Sink hole appearance brings with it another facet of uncertainty - the agent of change.

In our area limestone is on top of caves, the caves have water. When the water drys up the caves tops of limestone crumble, if there is to much weight on top. Sinkholes are
common here.

We have water volcanoes because of the caverns that are filled with water, and the water gets push up to mountain tops. Whole towns are on top of those caverns. We also have
many empty caverns, that goes for hundreds of miles.

Just think if we had a big earthquake.

I am a little bit confused. Is this the same sink hole from last week? Specifically last Wed the 19th?? The reason I ask is that I was on I-24 North last week on my way to Nashville to see a client and saw the hole on the southbound side. My first thought was 'damn-hope no one was hurt or ran into it-second thought was 'damn-it's gonna take me forever to get home on the backroads.
Anyone in the area can confirm if it's the same one? TDOT radio was saying that it would be fixed by this past weekend. Interesting.
