All of the above, and more. It's the culminative effect of all these things at once, and the realization that this oil "spill" is on pace to be the worst disatser in recorded history.

No, we are in a Holiday reversal mode. We had the swing day yesterday. When the U.S. has a 3 day holiday the market tends to do a reversal. If trending down it will spring up or as it is now trending downward and it shot up.

If the Kill Shot does NOT work I agree ... the markets will come down big time, though I am not sure it will happen all at once tomorrow!

My past experiences with markets is that it takes a few days for really bad news to have it's biggest impact upon the markets. There is an initial "shock reaction" then an "ah shucks" reaction afterwards where many market participants say it's not really that bad so the market stabilized and even sometimes bounces a bit. THEN people realize it really IS THAT BAD ... and you get your waterfall. Tony Plummer in a couple of his books on markets/trading gives the best description of this psychology at work in the markets.

NOW ... with that said ...

A LOT of the front line really sharp traders have started reading Cliff's work ... and IF the Kill Shot fails what he put into his latest report (out yesterday) is going to spook the living daylights out of them!! Most of those who do read his report will probably be scanning it tonight and putting it on the weekend reading list ... but IF that Kill Shot fails they will suddenly remember what they scanned tonight and will start shitting their pants rather quickly.

There is also the entire Death of the Euro talk floating around and that already has many traders spooked combined with many trading strategies in the middle of a change ...

MANY traders want to be flat over the upcoming longer weekend because of the debt/currencies issues floating around the Euro since a LOT can happen wrt Central Bank issues over such a weekend when chaos is raging just under the surface. Massive numbers of traders going flat in unison for the weekend can generate a LOT of selling.

Finally Korea: I don't see where that has been factored into the markets yet, the markets seem pretty Ho Hum about it so far ... but that is one further weekend wild card which will drive some (not a lot) of traders to be flat for the weekend.

Thursday "could" be volatile ... but as of yet no guarantees.

Right now the DOW has to first rally to new 2010 highs, then we might see another correction.

Glad that YOU are so certain that "chaos" can be contained. From my experience in the markets over 40+ years I am not so certain.

Markets are odds betting machines ... and Black Swans DO BOTH EXIST AND HAPPEN!! One is a fool to exclude Black Swan events from one's calculations ... that is what effectively killed LTCM (AIG was just stupidity ... their bets were guranteed to fail).

Black and Sholes did some great work ... but their mathmatical models were flawed by their failure to provide for Black Swan events ... just as your statement "Just ain't gonna happen..." is flawed by that same hubris also.

Yes it probably won't happen ... but from my whole body of work we ARE in a Black Swan "window" potential timeframe. When "Black Swan Potential" timeframe windows are open one best tread softly since eventually one WILL pop out of the woodwork.
