The former head of the Yukos oil company, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, could face up to 10 years in prison. Representatives of the liberal opposition and the Jewish community are certain that the proceedings are a show trial directed against Jews. A Russian court on Wednesday delayed issuing a verdict in the trial of former Yukos oil magnate Mikhail Khodorkovsky on charges of tax evasion and fraud. But rather than slowing the debate about the controversial case, it is likely only to fuel it further in Russia, where some critics charge President Vladimir Putin is operating outside the rule of law and others are charging the government is conducting an anti-Semitic campaign against prominent Jewish businessmen.
