Instead, the shifting pattern arose from a long process of formation and erosion that gave it the appearance of slowly moving and spiraling inward over time. [link to www.msnbc.msn.com] Gorgeous pic. Now I want to see a similar pic of the Earth North and South poles. Not a computer image but a real image like this one on Mars. Why there are not Pole images and why almost all the Earth images are computer ones and not real ones? I can only find Earth images that are computer created or Apollo 11 or Kaguya ones. You can count Earth images with your fingers and you don't need all of them. |

This from the link: The north pole of Mars is topped with a bizarrely-shaped icecap, riven by deep chasms larger than the Grand Canyon that create a whirling spiral shape. At last scientists have discovered what ancient force created this strange geological feature. For the past 40 years, ever since the shape of the cap was revealed by satellites, scientists have debated the origins of the spiral chasms. They've suggested everything from volcanic eruptions to the motion of the planet as it spins. But it turns out that one man knew the answer all along, though nobody took him seriously when he first suggested it in the early 1980s. Now a paper published today in Nature, based on measurements taken by the Shallow Radar device, vindicates this prescient scientist's view. Below, you can see a reconstruction of the inside of one of the chasms. 40 years ago they took satellite photos of this area, they knew there was ice there all these years. And just recently they announced they've found evidence of water on Mars... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 960518 United States 05/27/2010 11:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's just more "disclosure." That is how disclosure is going to be done. Not by Obama or some other talking head, taking out syndicated air time and announcing to the world that aliens and space-ships do exist, but by little news blurbs here and there. Like a couple weeks ago when Stephen Hawkin said - "Yea... aliens exist, but don't talk to them." Quoting: Anonymous Coward 983087That way, some day people will say... Well DUH! Of course they exist, everyone knows that!! I don't know. I'm not quite sure what you're exactly trying to say here. Are you saying "they" know about conclusive evidence of "aliens" ....or....what, exactly? Personally I find the "they-all-know"-theories flawed because it presupposes that Hawking is working in coordination with these scientists (and there are many) studying Mars' polar caps. Furthermore, the web would extend far beyond them. I just find it highly unlikely. My thoughts on "aliens" are like this- they exist. They can't not exist. Look at all the stars in the Milky Way. Calculate how many can potentialy harbor life for a planet in the "goldilocks zone". Then multiply that by the number of galaxies in the Local Group. Then multiply that number by the number of other galaxy clusters in a galaxy supercluster. And so on... There's ABSOLUTELY life out there. Again, there can't NOT be. I just don't buy that our governments/scientists are "in cahoots" with "aliens". If "aliens" are "here", then that means they have the techonology for interstellar (possibly even intergalactic) travel. Which means....they're FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR beyond us. Farther beyond then we will be for generations and generations. They may be farther along than we WILL EVER be. So, by that token, in my opinion, these "aliens" would have about as much incentive to collude with our governments as our governments do with an anthill. I don't think the "aliens" would give a shit about our fancy governments. And also...the article has a pretty sound explanation for these "swirls". It's not the easiest shit to wrap your head around, but it does make sense. And on the subject of "disclosure" specifically, again, I don't think any scientists know any secret info about any aliens. I mean...what scientist WOULDN'T want to go down in history as the one who established "first contact"...? I don't think you could keep an ambitious scientist's mouth shut about this for a second. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 960518 United States 05/27/2010 11:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How about a turbulence of dark cloud trails projecting over a direct light source from the interior of Mars? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 764883NASA must be really impertinent, insisting on the ice cap theory, which was intenable even 100 years ago...supported by junk science and a highly inferior picture, which an observatory could have easily taken in the 19th century. This white cap diminishes in size in the spring season until it sometimes disappears totally. Astronomers have noticed, since the 19th century, that a vast area of white colour appeared around the pole of Mars in the short space of 24 hours. In that time an area nearly as large as the US was visible as a white cap, and then it gradually disappeared. Ice? But the cap does not diminish gradually as it would if it were gradually melting ice. It does it by sudden jumps! Mystery finally explained? Then shall we get answers at least to the following questions, asked some 90 years ago by M.B. Gardner? First: Why does the hot planet Venus also have polar caps like those of Mars if the Martian caps are really composed either of ice, snow or frozen carbon-dioxide? Second: Why do the polar caps of Venus and Mercury not wax and wane as those of Mars do? Third: Why are the polar caps of Mars seen to throw a mass of light many miles above the surface of the planet when they are seen in a side view if they are only of ice? ....What? I had to read that 3 or 4 times to make absolutely sure I was reading it correctly. ....Since when does Venus have polar ice caps...? [link to wiki.answers.com] I mean....you do realize that Venus is, by far, the most hellish place in the solar system, right? ...Right? |

Thank God no one studies what that asshole had to say anymore. (...because he was probably "feeding us bullshit", too..right?) NASA (although, fyi, NASA hardly has a monopoly on the study of Mars, but for the sake of consistency, I'll stick with it) redefining their ideas about Mars and what it's features are probably has something to do with the exponential increase in telescope technology, along with the various information-gathering probes we've sent towards it. What do you think? I mean, I know you think "they're" "feeding us bullshit". Me, I just see science. (and, oh yeah, that quote from the site...I wouldn't take it as gospel, off-hand...) |

I honestly can say that I do not believe "planet X" is close enough to make changes, but I do believe there are many many unanswered questions, or "half-truths" about how our solar system functions.
