Just wait... more and more volcanoes will be erupting...

Typical...there's always one who thinks they know it all...BUT they always wait till after the event and say 'I knew that was gonna happen' whatever

Martial law has been declared in Guatemala City.

The Pacaya Volcano is 14 miles south of the city.

This volcano lay dormant for many many years until 1965.

Since 1965, the volcano has erupted many times.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 919411

uh no, dont think we have martial law, just a code red, whatever that means.. my housekeeper just showed up, she says not many cars on road and everything is covered in sand.

pacaya is allways kicking off, the landscape is always changing there, about 2months ago some people were killed.

ive been there often and seen it spitting lava, to just seeing rivers of lave. last trip i even got lost in the dried lava bolders the higher you go up the harder it is to find your way around with out a guide, its changes so much there are no paths.

i dont know why the other person from guatemala is saying there is ash everywhere, its not ash its black sand.

its been raining here for 2days non stop, after lastnight no rain and we need it to clean off everything, trees covered and all..

i will ask hubby to take some photos and put online.

I hate to say this, but I think Costa Rica's next, and I have family there. The volcanoes have been acting up there bigtime. One is releasing so much acidic gases that an iron pot placed nearby will erode very quickly, and thousands of people are breathing this everyday. Definitely something is going on in that whole region.

1 dead, 3 missing in Guatemala volcano eruption

By JUAN CARLOS LLORCA

GUATEMALA CITY — Rocks spewing from a volcano overlooking the Guatemalan capital killed a television reporter, authorities said Friday. Three children are missing.

.The Pacaya volcano started erupting lava and rocks on Thursday afternoon, blanketing Guatemala City with ash and forcing the closure of the international airport. President Alvaro Colom declared a "state of calamity."

Television reporter Anibal Archila was hit by a shower of rocks when he got too close to the volcano, about 15 miles (25 kilometers) south of Guatemala City, said David de Leon, a spokesman for the national disaster committee.

He said three children between the ages of seven and 12 were missing.

At least 1,600 people from villages closest to the volcano have been evacuated to shelters.

Two to three inches (Five to 7.5 centimeters) of ash accumulated on streets in some southern parts of the city, and officials imposed limits on trucks and motorcycles to help speed up traffic slowed by the ash.

The government urged residents not to leave their homes unless there was an urgent need.

The most active of Guatemala's 32 volcanos, Pacaya has been intermittently erupting since 1966, and tourists frequently visit areas near three lava flows formed in eruptions between 1989 and 1991.

In 1998, the 8,373-foot (2,552-meter) volcano twice spewed plumes of ash, forcing evacuations and shutting down the airport in Guatemala City.

Fascinating.
Pacaya is a tourist Hiker's dream...

They even have shirts that say, "Pacaya is for Pussies" sold at the top of Volcan' Fuego (whom far less hike).

It is definitely active.
Hoping this clears up for the Guatemaltecos ASAP so they can get back to daily life. Displacing villagers is a challenge if it is the growning season. They have their livelhood to attend.

How is this affecting Antigua?

CNN VIDEO AND STORY RE: this story.

Guatemala City, Guatemala (CNN) -- The death toll from the eruption of a volcano in Guatemala has risen to at least three people, an official said Friday.

Two villagers from El Bejucal and a reporter from CNN affiliate Noti 7 were killed as a result of Thursday's eruption of the Pacaya volcano, said David de Leon, a spokesman for the national disaster commission.

The three victims were crushed by rocks strewn by the volcano.

Pacaya, located about 15 miles (25 km) south of Guatemala City, began spewing ash and soot about 7 p.m. (9 p.m. ET) Thursday.

Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom declared a state of calamity for 15 days and called for calm as the eruption spread ash over the capital, prompting evacuations and shutting down the city's international airport.

Four people were missing as evacuations continued, the president said.

At least 1,800 people have been placed in shelters after four villages near the volcano were evacuated, de Leon said.

The runway at La Aurora International Airport -- the third busiest airport in Central America in terms of passenger traffic -- was covered with ash and will be closed Friday, Colom said.

About 25 percent of the airport's daily flights had to be diverted to alternative airports after La Aurora was closed around 7:30 p.m., said Monica Monje with Civil Aeronautics.

The states of Guatemala, Escuintla and Sacatepequez were hardest hit. Classes were canceled Friday in Escuintla and Guatemala states, Colom said.

A slight rain that fell over the area mixed with the ash, hindering visibility.

Alejandro Estrada Garcia, a 21-year-old student in Guatemala City, filed a CNN iReport detailing his difficulties.

"I was returning from the university," he said. "It was really hard to drive because the ash was coming down with a bit of rain, so it was kind of muddy and really hard to get off the windshield. I drove with my window open so I could see."

Garcia's dad inspects his ash covered car

Pacaya had been dormant for a century until 1965, when it erupted again. It has been active since.

Its summit has an elevation of 8,373 feet (2,552 meters).

CNN's Gustavo Valdes and journalists Bertha Ramos-Rodriguez and Alexia Rios Hayashi contributed to this report.

I woke up almost every morning with something new. I told my hubby, and he was like...write it down. I blew it off. It started increasing, then I took it a bit more serious.

Might share it on here someday. :)

Either way, i'll be labeled as a crazy christard...hehe.

Your husband seems a sensible man. Is he a member here also?
What interests me particularly is why you'd be getting physical symptoms over such a distance. You're a long way from Guatemala - aren't you? Or is this of more a psychic nature and then it doesn't matter where it is?

Why would people pick on your religion because you get headaches related to earthquakes and volcanoes? Well, that's just a rhetorical question for we're all aware that internet posters don't need a reason to pick on anyone for anything and I'd imagine that by now you've learnt to ignore it.

Those so eager to hurl the 'christard' epithet might be reminded that they'd scarcely be allowed to breathe air themselves had it not been for the protections granted them by nations largely established according to Christian values.

No ringing in the ears or headaches here...I have quick flashes. Don't even bother reporting them anymore. The last I posted, I got so ragged on it wasn't even funny. I do keep a diary though.
