Quoting: Anonymous Coward 849621That would mean MILLIONS of you white people would get shipped off back to Europe, where you belong. Do you people have any idea how many of your ancestors were illegal immigrants? You wouldn't be so quick to diss all the illegals in the modern era if you knew the real truth about your backgrounds. I'm sure my grandparents, on both sides, were legal immigrants. |

U.S. citizenship is not an automatic thing with Birth certificates, it is a social security claim. Only on a Social security form is citizenship received under title 8 uscs. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 560401The ANCHOR BABIES GET A SOCIAL SECURITY CARD AT BIRTH, RIGHT THERE IN THE HOSPITAL FROM SOCIAL SERVICES. YEP, THEY DO!! Bullshit - Nobody gives out or gets social security cards at a hospital. Go have a child and find out. LOL you must be a male and an old one! SS cards are issued automatically from hospital records at birth. You don't have to do anything but wait for them to arrive in the mail within a few weeks. Yep, I've birthed 4 of them and all but my oldest was that way -- also changed in the 80's. |

Timewarlord User ID: 950755 Australia 05/28/2010 10:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I know this is a stricktly American issue, but we have a similar situation in Australia with illegal boat peoples, refugees from unsavory countries, when they are intercepted at sea trying to enter the country the government takes them to detention centers for processing, 90% of these people are granted permanent residency and eventual citizenship. Once you are declared a permanent resident all children you have that are born in Australia are automatically citizens and are immune to deportation laws. If you slip through the gaps and land ashore without being caught and enter socitey, any children they have are automatically Australian citizens on their 10th birthday even if their parents are here illegally and have never been granted a residency. Due to alot of civil libertarian movements illegals who are caught who have children are never deported because of media attention and outcry. The currently raging debate over allowing these people into our country is a whole different kettle of fish, with many and varied views and opinion and I'm not going to weigh into it here. That being said our laws on illegal immigration are quite weak at the moment. I sympathise with the American people because the most sacred of things our democracy is what makes us weak to the illegal immigrants seeking to enter our countries, I think excessive immigration both legalo and illegal is one of the major problems that faces western nations today. Look at france or the UK, cultural erosion is a threat that simply cannot be ignored. We do however face a grave problem, just how much of our democracy should we sacrifice to save our culture, is it worth it? and who is welcome to our democracy? Immigration is a very difficult subject. "Attitudes truly are contagious. So ask yourself one question… Is mine worth catching?" |

Babies are born in poor countries everyday but I don't see you running out and recommending that every poor person with a child be allowed into the USA. ILLEGAL immigrants are CRIMINALS and as such should be the last people granted any kind of citizenship. I think that although Australia may grant citizenship to children born here it no longer extends to the parents of the child. There was a bit of trouble with Asians trying to use babies to get citizenship and I think the law changed, well anyway anchor babies aren't a problem here so something in the law must be different to the one in the USA. |

After that, it is mailed and takes several weeks to get. So, insulting someone more knowledgeable than you doesn't prove they are old. It only proves you are ignorant. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 967685 United States 05/28/2010 11:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Before 1986, people often did not have a Social Security number until the age of about 14, since they were used for income tracking purposes, and those under that age seldom had substantial income. In 1986, American taxation law was altered so that individuals over 5 years old without Social Security numbers could not be successfully claimed as dependents on tax returns; by 1990 the threshold was lowered to 1 year old,[4] and was later abolished altogether. Since then, parents have often applied for Social Security numbers for their children soon after birth; today, it can be done on the application for a birth certificate.[5] [link to en.wikipedia.org] There ya go! |
