BREAKING-Solar Impact 11:19pm ET! Winds 2X+, Protons 10,000X normal
CME from solar flare impacted Earth at 11:19pm ET. Solar winds jumped immediately from about 400 km/s to close to 1000!-

[link to umtof.umd.edu]

The dangerous Proton levels have been rising ever since the flare and are now over 10,000 times normal!-

[link to www.sec.noaa.gov]

This impact is perfect timing for Auroral displays over North America tonight! These things can take awhile to build, so it might be a good idea to check outside every half hour or so to see if anythings up. Good luck!

It´s clouded over where I´m at, too. Even without that, I´m probably too far south to get a good look.

I just took a photo of the sunspots about 30 minutes ago.

First time I´ve tried, this one looks a bit like the Mandelbrot Chaos Fractal Thingy Bob.

The worst that can happen is a satellite could go down due to the Proton Flux scrambling up circuits.

[link to www.n3kl.org]

If this happened a satelite could loose altitude and re enter in some time as it takes a while to degrade.

Also though not totaly linked, is sudden and unexpected storms could develop some-where?

Aw C´mon don´t wet your panties now. This is a normal M clas flare, not even an X class. Proton streams like this have no significant impact, I´ve been watching them since the normal flux started yesterday. Usually when an event of this nature occurs the account will stay up for about a day. I´m monitoring ground level flux on my scopes here right now. For thos that are interested in the current satelite levels go here;

Latest from spacew.com -

Updated: 2:25 UTC 15 May (10:25 pm EDT, 14 May)

Geomagnetic and Auroral Activity Update

The anticipated coronal mass ejection HAS ARRIVED. Impact with the Earth is expected anytime now. The IMF has turned northward with this event and therefore will (for the moment) not be capable of producing significant activity. However, a southward turning (negative Bz) is anticipated during this disturbance and should produce some decent auroral storm conditions. The disturbance arrived earlier than expected. It´s higher than anticipated velocity will increase the potential volatility of the disturbance.

I dont know if there is a correlation here but at the same time the Pc3 Indices are high for most of Australia, in line with the report.

The Pc3 Indicates the magnetic disturbance on a level of 1 to 10 and at the moment it is at 9.

Interesting, I´ve never seen these graphs before, thanks for the great LINK!

Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3 indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3 indices for that station.

Estimated AFr/Ap Indices 14 May : A
Fredericksburg 10
Planetary 9

Observed AFr/Ap Indices 13 May : A K

Experts: Flares May Have Helped Planets

By ALICIA CHANG, AP Science Writer Wed May 11,11:46 AM ET

LOS ANGELES - Solar flares are infamous for wreaking havoc on electrical power lines and communication signals. But a team of astronomers says such bursts emitted by the sun in its youth may have helped planets form.

Looking through
NASA´s Chandra X-ray Observatory, the astronomers focused on a cluster of young stars in the Orion Nebula, 1,500 light-years from Earth. Studying 30 sunlike stars over two weeks, they found the young stars erupted in flares more powerful than those produced by the sun.

The observation could explain how Earth survived during its formative years, astronomers said.

Half the stars in Orion showed evidence of disks, places where rocky planets might be formed. Recent studies have shown that when X-ray flares strike planet-forming disks, they interact with the disk and affect the position of a planet from a star. The astronomers theorized that energetic flares prevent developing planets from falling into the newborn star.

"Big X-ray flares could lead to planetary systems like ours where Earth is a safe distance from the sun," astronomer Eric Feigelson of Penn State University said Tuesday. "Stars with smaller flares, on the other hand, might end up with Earth-like planets plummeting into the star."

Details will appear in a future issue of The Astrophysical Journal.

Christopher McKee, professor of physics and astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley, said the data collected by the Chandra telescope is a "treasure trove" that will help scientists understand planetary formation.

"It shows that the early evolution of the sun might have had significant effect on how the solar system formed," said McKee, who was not involved in the project.

Minbari PC3 are an intersting phenemona, No one can actually explian why they happen. that they are is an extemely low frequency that eminates from the earth in various locations. I tracked the pc3 running continuous at the 8-10 level in that area for about a week after the sumatra earthquak in december. However pc3 occurances are extremely common during auroral events such as what we are having right now. Perfectly common, why the earth "sings" like this is anybodies guess.
