Other than that we could always drop one of the Great Pyramids on it And there are probably fairly high odds that there will be CRACKS formed by the nuclear explosion ... and those cracks will allow the oil and gas, which is under tremendous pressure, to push it's way out. I am old enough (shit hate getting older) to remember the underground nuclear tests out west as I was a kid. Guess What? MANY OF THOSE UNDERGROUND NUCLEAR TESTS IN THE 50's & 60'S LEAKED INTO THE ATMOSPHERE ... BECAUSE THE ROCK CRACKED ALL THE WAY UP SEVERAL THOUSAND FEET!! Not every test leaked ... but enough did that all I can say is that there is a HUGE RISK that this thing will crack the rock for thousands of feet ... and then the built in pressure of the oil/gas will force itself through those cracks right up to the seabed ... just like what happened during those nuclear explosion tests from many years ago. What one could then end up with is a widespread leak coming out of many different locations. Panic Decisions made in haste are usually regretted later. Old Trader. |

We get no real facts from BP and our people that where on the rig are telling what really happened. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 281540The BP company man caused this entire mess and the fact they pulled the mud and went with a salt water injection is the core reason they lost pressure control to that started the Blow Out! BP seems hell bent on killing the Gulf of Mexico!!! I've heard about the people on the rig telling about what really happend - it was mentioned very briefly on British MSM but I haven't actually been able to find any of their accounts. Do you happen to have a link or two as I'm really interested in what they've got to say. Look for the news program sixty minutes. They had a good episode with one of the survivors. |

Doom makes me horny User ID: 706989 United States 05/29/2010 11:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | if such a blow out cannot be stopped on land, why does anyone think it can be stopped deep under sea? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 745240it can't & TPTB know it - hope you're enjoying the dog & pony show From correspondents in Jakarta From: Reuters June 10, 2008 12:00AM Gas company drilling 'caused eruption' DRILLING of a gas exploration well, and not an earthquake, set off a volcano that has been spewing boiling mud for two years and has displaced more than 50,000 people on the Indonesian island of Java, experts have said. Records kept by oil and gas company Lapindo Brantas during the drilling of a gas exploration well called Banjar-Panji-1 show specific incidents that could have triggered the disaster, the international team of experts said. [link to www.news.com.au] "The "mud volcano" pours out some 165,000 cubic yards of mud every day enough to cover a football field about 75 feet deep. Often spewing out in geyser-like eruptions, the mud has left some 665 acres swamped or abandoned as unsafe, forcing more than 10,000 people from their homes. Experts say the mud volcano is one of the largest ever recorded on land. Geologists fear the technology may not exist to stop the eruption, saying mud could flow for years or even centuries or stop on its own at any time." Thread: Indonesian Mud 'Volcano' "We show that the day before the mud volcano started, there was a huge 'kick' in the well, which is an influx of fluid and gas into the wellbore," Professor Davies. "We show that after the kick, the pressure in the well went beyond a critical level. This resulted in the leakage of the fluid from the well and the rock formations to the surface - a so-called underground blowout. This fluid picked up mud during its ascent, and Lusi was born." The team of British, American, Indonesian and Australian scientists, writing in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters, said this pressurised fluid fractured the surrounding rock. Mud spurted out of cracks instead of the wellhead. "There is not a hope on Earth they are going to stop it now," said the University of California Berkeley's Michael Manga, who worked on the study. "You can plug up a hole, but if you try to plug a crack, stuff just flows around the plug, or the crack gets bigger. The well now has no effect on the erupting mud, it was just the trigger that initiated it." Quoting: Anonymous Coward 983109You seriously think the well pipe itself could not be collapsed with a few drill holes and some charges. I aint talking about no stupid nukes. Just some holes and some charges. You should be smart enough to know the well pipe itself can be collapsed. BP just chooses not to do it because of the cost involved with drilling a new well.... And we all suffer for their greed. Right now this is just a US problem. Soon it shall be Mexicos problem... then the Caribbean, then into the atlantic. But they are already drilling two relief wells and incurring cost that way. I agree they're being cheap bastards. They wanted to drill only one relief well. Thad Allen says he ordered them to add a second. They should be drilling more than that. The relief wells have to be longer and go sideways to intersect the original well. A well for an explosive charge would not have to go sideways, probably. At least the one I saw described from Russia did not. |

United Mud User ID: 980404 United States 05/29/2010 11:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A nuke is insanity. If there is a way to get a nuke down hole then it should be obvious there is a path for the pressure to follow back to the surface. Besides, you have some sort of suitcase nuke that will fit in that hole that is already taken up by the casing? That's movie stuff not the real world. The engineers are not the guys making the calls on this debacle, they recommend to the to the office commandos who make the decision on what will be done. Nothing pisses off a field engineer more than being overruled by some guy who flies a desk for eight hours a day and makes the big bucks, but would not recognize a well kick if you directed one up his ass. IMHO if you check the accountants and authorized expenditures you will find all kinds of cost cutting shit that is directly involved. |

It's obvious he can't keep track of wtf is going on at the well head. Equally obvious he ain't too concerned about keeping oil out of the marsh. Our tax dollars at work. User ID: 911215 United States 05/29/2010 11:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The next move is to saw the top of the bop off...actually the top of the LMRP behind the point we have all seen the riser bent/kinked over the last few days blasting out whatever flow of fluid there was at the time...mud...oil and gas...who the hell can really tell at any one time..,..even the people who are supposed to be in charge don't even know what is going on....typical.. Quoting: SHRWhat they will do is use a diamond wire saw to cut off the top where that bent over pipe is connected...by now you should be able to figure what will immediately happen...all the kinked pipe restrictions to that massive pressure behind it?...they will be gone...the well will virtually be a wide open gusher at that point....we can ponder the finer details within the replies to this, but simply and esentially?...that is what will happen...they will saw off most of everything that is holding this well back from gushing to it's full potential... SHR, thanks for the update. It looks like the ROV’s have some type of saw out now on the “live” cam. Is that what they are doing now? Courage forges a path through all obstacles, while fear is the obstruction of all dreams.
