Honestly they're just buying time while their geniuses try to find some miracle that doesn't involve a nuke to shut this down. Every time I check on CNN they say they'll know in 48 hours but it's been 3 days. We probably wont know the results today or tomorrow. The whole Gulf is screwed.

BP now saying that the top kil has not reduced the amount of hydrocarbons (ehh, crude oil, methane and other gasses) being ejected into the Gulf of Mexico. Thus here are the next steps:

"In case the top-kill operation fails, engineers are already preparing a containment device called a lower marine riser package cap, or LMRP, Mr. Suttles said. This operation would involve removing a broken drilling pipe that lies atop the blowout preventer and capping the valve with a siphon that would take the oil to the surface.

If that containment attempt fails, Mr. Suttles said, the next step would be to try to place another blow-out preventer atop the broken one. "

Doing that will not make this disaster magically go away. There is a oil spill down there that is polluting the gulf of mexico and killing sea life. As if that wasn't enough, people are going to/are ruined because of this. It's been well over a month since this has occurred and there has been no solution to it. You pray and turn off the news and ignore this situation if you want, I however am not.
