Could take 4-7 days or longer for LMRP cap operation. Bad weather there today, entering hurricane season also, situation very fluid. They are going to cap it with a hose to suck up the oil coming out. But first they have to cut off the old one, which will let the well blow full blast. That's the scary part. |

Those little ROVs don't have the necessary thrust, as far as I know. Quoting: Evil TwinDetails smetails. They will figure it out. Everyone knows BP is great at solving things. |

Quoting: ºCRAPºUm, one would think this cap with a different techno name will just as well clog! Jeese fucking MORANS!!!!! How can you cap a bent riser on top of a BOP that is 60 feet above the sea floor? You can't. The top hat was for a leak coming out of the riser which was laying on the sea floor. They are two different leaks. This so-called plan of theirs is beyond insane. |

That won't stop the oil from leaking from the cracks in the concrete and god knows where else. Maybe it'll minimize the amount of oil but its not going to stop it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 927592 United States 05/29/2010 07:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | wait till they cut that riser and then have an issue! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 985446I watched the news conference too. BP COO said that the flow shouldn't be affected by a cut.. was it the riser though they said? God it's so complicated... Anyways, based on SHR's most grateful summation, when BP COO said that is when I started praying. OMG And ET your comments are always spot on my friend. Did anyone catch that part of the interview when the red and blue jacket trainees were woken up at midnight unexpectedly? In other words, Obama was totally busted with his dog and pony show so they had to pretend it was always going on haha The guy they interviewed quit the job lol Wasn't worth the money they said. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 985446I feel sorry for the real worker guys who are out there in the ocean carrying out the dirty work ordered by their masters. I would like to see the Masters out there doing it, & when there is another explosion the masters will be blown to hell. Now that would make my day. |

RF User ID: 503158 United States 05/29/2010 07:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So they intend to cut off the pipe sticking out of the BOP and then slide a cap around it that will allow them to siphon the oil up to the surface. What are the risks?? Once the tube is removed it will alleviate all of the pressure on the BOP as the oil will be free flowing into the sea. So the amount of oil shooting out of the pipe will be enormous, many times worse than it is now. They will most likely use all of the ROVS to guide this contraption down, hoping that the oil shoots straight up through the center of it - kind of like sliding a ring on a finger. Of course, if any part of the LMRP Cap even touches the oil stream it will want to flip over - so they need to be very precise. If they can pull this off then it should succeed. However, I believe the BOP has already dislodged itself from the sea floor and is currently being moved about by the oil pressure passing through it. We shall see |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 967837 Canada 05/29/2010 07:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I heard from a radio news report that if they can't stop the spill, it could go on shooting out oil longer than anyone living today would live! That is over a hundred years. Someone tell me I heard wrong, please - There can't be that must oil down there, can there |

Those little ROVs don't have the necessary thrust, as far as I know. Quoting: Evil TwinWhile I couldn't really know for sure, wouldn't it be possible, considering that the LMRP is open?? You just aim the hole in the thing over the stream, and let gravity do its job??? I'm not even sure if that is being proposed....and I'll bet it's the very first time THAT has been attempted as well.... All of this won't mean jack shit if the well casing's been hammered to hell from the gas kick....it would just turn the sea floor into the world's biggest aquarium pump diffuser... Sheez.. |
