340,000 Barrels of Oil per Day
According to NPR, all the tanks, planes and ships of the U.S. military burn about 340,000 barrels of oil per day, making it the "single-largest purchaser and consumer of oil in the world." If you break it down, the Air Force uses the most fuel, followed by the Navy, and then the Army.

If the Department of Defense were a country, it would rank about 38th in the world for oil consumption, right behind the Philippines, a country with a population of 90.5 million people.

Over the past 10 years, BP has paid tens of millions of dollars in fines and been implicated in four separate instances of criminal misconduct that could have prompted this far more serious action. Until now, the company’s executives and their lawyers have fended off such a penalty by promising that BP would change its ways. That strategy may no longer work.

The EPA issued a statement saying it could issue a ban after reviewing “the frequency and pattern of the incidents, corporate attitude both before and after the incidents, changes in policies, procedures, and practices.”

Suspend BP From Federal Contracts? Don't Bet On It

Will BP be suspended or debarred from government contracting for its role in the massive oil spill in the Gulf? The Wall Street Journal offers some thought-provoking speculation this morning, noting that Obama administration attorneys are looking at whether BP's actions leading up to the environmental disaster warrant being banned from future federal contracts.

Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich wrote to eight senators on Wednesday, explaining that Justice Department attorneys are "examining a full range of affirmative legal options that may be available to the United States."

Let's put this all into a broader context. Could BP be subject to a massive fine? Count on it. Will they face additional scrutiny from federal regulators and watchdogs? Certainly. But suspension or debarment from future government contracts? Highly unlikely.

In fiscal 2009 the energy giant won a whopping $2.9 billion in contracts, the overwhelming majority from the Pentagon, where BP is the largest supplier of fuel. In other words, Defense needs BP, arguably as a matter of national security--a likely argument they will use not to suspend or debar the firm.

Some will argue that with the BP spill in the Gulf, we're in unchartered waters (so to speak). Maybe, but history says otherwise. For example, it's tough to find two more demonized contractors in history than KBR and Blackwater; however both have survived massive scandals and have kept winning billion-dollar contracts. In addition, companies like Siemens AG, BAE Systems and Chevron have paid nine-figure penalties to the government in recent years to settle foreign bribery cases. And, as I reported last month, none have faced suspension.

In other words, get used to BP as a government contractor. The administration may be wagging its finger at them now. But, sooner or later, they'll be partnering again

all BP has received for defense contracts is deficit
spending.

Americans can put a stop to it all if they will stop using
credit, and stop using banks, except to cash checks.

computer, jump a few legal hurdles by way of corporate
filings, and start lending money they don't have, and
collecting interest on the loans as income.

Direct deposit makes this possible and the whole thing can be set up for less than $300.00

As soon as the Glass-Steagall laws were repealed, loan
sharkery became legal in the US.

All it takes is one corp. filing, one federal filing, one website that looks like a bank with some made up number as 'assets', one ad in a national
paper, the proper forms on file for each borrower with the borrowers signature, and some affiliation with collection agencies.

Any amount of interest can be charged, even 125% for a micro, short therm loan.

The 'borrower' who watches over his/her 'credit rating' is the single biggest element of sheeple in the human experience

At around 400.00 per gallon for fuel on the ground in Afghanistan BP is just following KBR/Halliburtons lead in defrauding the US Gubmint and no matter how much criminal activity is exposed they will get even MORE contracts, most likely 'nobid' while the gas tax is quadrupled on the masses to pay for the cleanup of the oil spill. Yeah right that 'tax' goes to pay off the interest on the US Debt, of which we have only been paying interest for years.
