There was a crackling noise about 20-30 seconds after it went below the horizon. So it probably wasn't too far away if the sound got here that fast. It sounded like firecrackers off in the distance.

Just a crackle sound. Anyone northbound on 35E couldn't have missed it. It was trailing an orange flame for several degrees of sky. It went from about 45 degrees up and was still lit up big time when it went behind the roof line of the house across the street.

I've seen a ton of meteors, aka typical shooting stars, but that was the first one ever to have a giant flame coming off of it.
