Quoting: Anonymous Coward 987713That looks completely impossible to me. They seem to get a groove started then slip with the saw. Yeah, I don't think what they are using is going to cut through that. I wonder if there is anything that can cut through that under water. |

So if i understand correctly, they are going to cut off the top of this thing and then try to put some form of stopper over it? I would imagine that the stream of oil spilling out once the top is removed would be tremendous, how will they see? |

They need to coat the angle grinder with aggregate diamond nanorod, and power it from a small nuclear generator or a nuclear/diesel submarine. |

It's hot here User ID: 774404 United States 05/31/2010 12:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | why are they cutting vertically instead of horizontally? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 935690They seem to be taking the hardest approach possible. They've got to slice it in to several vertical pieces. If they just try and cut the entire pipe horizontally there's a good chance it'll just bend over, sort of like a tree. If it bends, it could stress the BOP and take it down to the sea floor. And to the previous posters question, why are they using a saw, is there anything that will cut 2" steel. Yes, it's called a burn, basically an ARC welder in reverse. Burns at 10k deg but, also causes bubbles of hydrogen that explode so that's a no go. It really is! I never drink water, fish fuck in it. W.C.
