What's really amazing was all the foreign cemeteries of U.S. troops throughout France,Netherlands etc.. Thousands of U.S. troops are there including Patton. They even have school trips where all the kids visit the graves to remember the countless lives lost to protect them. I think the biggest one in France had 17,000 U.S. soldiers buried there. Truly heartbreaking and mesmerizing. Thank you Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, Navy and all women in the civilian sectors. Many who had families were lost there some right where they died are buried within yards of their last stand.

First thing I'd do if I was a a grunt in today's armed forces:

"PRIVATE! PREP WEAPONS AND DEPLOY AT 04:00 IN KABUL, AFGHANISTAN!"

I may not support this government in... any way, but I have nothing but respect for the men and women who choose to fight for it. Sounds like a paradox, right. But many people have many different reasons for donning the uniform. And at the end of the day, like it or not, we're all Americans.

My grandfather was a paratrooper in WW2. Fought in the Battle of the Bulge. My other grandfather was en route to Japan when the war ended.

It'll be nice someday when we don't need "armies"...

One of the ways that you can judge the character of a nation is by how they care for their military veterans. On this Memorial Day, we remember those who have fought and died defending the American Dream, but this should also be a day when we check and make certain that those who have served this country so bravely are being taken care of. Unfortunately, a cold, hard examination of the facts reveals that the U.S. government is doing a horrific job of caring for our military veterans. U.S. government officials seem to be able to do a great job of laying wreaths and holding ceremonies, but when it comes to actually getting military veterans the care and benefits that they desperately need, the attitude seems to be "deny, deny, deny until they die".
