Anonymous Coward User ID: 989560 Canada 06/02/2010 10:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The assumption that the blade is 'pinched' is not based on anything. The cut had not progressed far enough to let the riser flex at all. Quoting: FreethinkerI am not saying the riser is pinching it. I am saying the drill stem inside the riser may be coming up since flow has increased so drastically. strictly speculation. You could be right. It is possibly pressure from the drill. |

That way as you cut the weight of the pipe will open up your cut and not pinch you blade. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 988478As soon as I saw how they were cutting this I knew it was going to get stuck. They need some people with common sense n that control room instead of the bumbling book smart idiots they have now. They are likely to make things really messed up if they keep this up. They did it exactly right. The bent-over riser is opposit the saw. That will cause the riser to fall AWAY from the bot. Anonymous Coward 988478, From what I can see they came in from the side of the bend. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 988478 United States 06/02/2010 10:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am not sure, but it is entirely possible that the drill stem is being lifted and this is what is pinching the blade. They started the cut on the "uphill" side of the riser, it should have been a simple matter to drop the lines supporting the horizontal section of riser to allow the kerf to open and unpinch the blade. Quoting: FreethinkerI think the stem is rising, pinching the blade inside the cut. just a guess. The assumption that the blade is 'pinched' is not based on anything. The cut had not progressed far enough to let the riser flex at all. I am not saying the riser is pinching it. I am saying the drill stem inside the riser may be coming up since flow has increased so drastically. strictly speculation. I agree that is a possibility, but the drill stem would have had to be cut almost clear through to do that. I suppose if it was crammed up against that wall nearest the blade.... |

Allen said the goal is to free the saw and finish the cut later today. This is the second major cut in the effort to contain the spill. |

The diamond saw cutter is 90 degrees to the downward bend in the riser, not opposite it. Im sure the engineers considered placement very carefully but it was odd to me as well. |
