no we have a medical and specific driving test for HGV usage to ensure those using them in public can do so safely.

again it's not 100% but the alternative is to allow free access and watch the roads decend into unregulated carnage.

I get the impression that in the US, curbs on guns are viewed as an infringement on freedom, whereas the average Brit sees gun control as something of a blessing.
No one I know is remotely interested in having a gun. But I'm thinking of getting one before 2012!
As for this incident, are we not seeing an increase in such events world wide? A psychologist on the radio just now was putting it down to a growing disenfranchisement with society.

trucks (and cars) are potentially lethal weapons as are cars that's why use of such is legally limited to those licensed ONLY after demonstrating the prerequisite skills to use them safely. This doesn't stop fatalities nor their use as a weapon but it does reduce the frequency of such.

I dont understand why people do things like this--it doesn't compute to me............as best as I can figure out, people know when they do something like this that they will be shot by the police.......bobbies.........um, and since that is almost like running head on into a train, they are obviously depressed and want to commit suicide or figure they have nothing to lose by doing so.......SO WHY TAKE INNOCENT PEOPLE WITH YOU? Well, I consider myself somewhat a pacifist, but I am going to get my gun owners card from the state of Illinois so I can get a gun to protect myself from the pit bulls and 'rotties' that people dump out here, on the farms...not worried about people, if they want to kill you, they will find a way.

All I have to say is thank fuck guns are banned in this country, so we never see things like this.

What I cannot understand is the unfathomable claim that gun controls are counter productive because only crooks then have guns.

It's utter claptrap and demonstrates more about the ignornace of gun ownership and usage by those arguing for it in the UK than a rational argument for them. (I strongly suspect those in the UK arguing in favour have no idea what gun ownership would entail)

I use guns and have access to them because of my background profession and expat lifestyle. Only last week I was caibrating my skills with a turkish 9mmm sarsilmas kilinc 2000. Although I am myself an admirer of weaponry, I derive no sense of personal safety from having to maintain a weapon and dread the time I may have to take it out and use it for real.
