Here is what I just did.

I took the straw out of my root beer an bent it in half. Very little root beer makes it through a bent straw, less than 20%?

Unbent, there is a full, unrestricted flow of yummy root beer.

I would say BP had the estimate backwards. The flow was constricted to 20% (or less) when the straw was bent. Cut and unbent, that oil straw will release the 80%~ that was held back.

So now you have to adjust the flow estimates, the top being about 20,000 bbl a day. 20,000 is 20% of what number? 100,000 bbl a day. The relief drill may or may not be completed in August...I say October.

Now consider what has been the effect of 43 days at 20% flow, vs 120-180 days at 100%.

BUT, when the fuse reaches the powder, i.e. the oil ( Surface and HEAVY Crude BELOW on the floor of the Ocean ) REACHES the Atlantic Ocean, is SWEPT UP the Eastern Coast by the prevailing currents, polluting it from Florida to Long Island to Maine, THEN you will realize just how much DOOM there IS for the VERY near future.

It might be impossible to plug this leak.

They must relieve pressure by harvesting the oil whatever way they can. With this type of pressure you simply cannot put the lid back on. So get the oil flowing into pipes fast.

BP cannot win if they have no way to harvest the oil, except for maybe drilling sister wells in the same area as fast as they can.
