Why? I don't know... The cap is ON. BTW... They haven't started to suck any of it up yet, though. Multi-Cam view?? [link to www.jtnog.org] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 991304You lazy person, its gone 11 here....:) Sadly, the cap has failed, we are now in meltdown and the oil is gushing apocalyptically forth. Maybe it would be better to completely dismantle the riser and all apparatus and bury the whole thing ina million tons of cement or rocks or anything. Top riser mark II? |

Anyone know if they don't manage to stop this 'leak' how long it could naturally go on for? How much oil is there in one of these pockets they tapped into??????? Years.Literally. The nuclear option is open. These relief wells they are talking about which won't be ready till August, are not guaranteed to stop it either. |

Well, if it keeps gushing out like this for another few months, the whole of the Gulf will be awash with oil. The slick will feed into the gulf stream and head towards Europe/Africa. How much it disperses - no one knows. It's looking hopeless. Like putting out a raging inferno with glasses of water... |

Anyone know if they don't manage to stop this 'leak' how long it could naturally go on for? How much oil is there in one of these pockets they tapped into??????? Estimates that I heard said, theres 26 years of oil down there... but after 9 years the pressure would equalize and contain the flow enough to cap it naturally. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 992053 Ireland 06/04/2010 06:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.scientificamerican.com] This article shows how long lasting the effects of the Exxon Valdez spill were and indeed still are being felt. And that is now a smaller spill than this one. Even if they stopped it right this minute, which they won't, it will take about 25 years to get the eco system functioning normally again. I will be an old man or probably dead before it is ever like it was again. Truly appalling, and worse for the people who live there. |
TheWholeTruth User ID: 959169 United States 06/04/2010 06:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | are there any reliable numbers on how many oil is leaking out per day? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 991463I would think the Purdue University figures are the closest to the truth. But the leak is much worse now so those numbers need to be updated. BP wont say how much oil is coming out...and they are the only ones that really know the truth. |

Seems they are concentrating on dispersant operations right now. What a disaster.. "There are known knowns. There are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns. Anderson Cooper was pissed last night. He kept saying how all BP needs is a spokesman to explain stuff clearly and the American people could at least partially understand what is happening down there and why everything is failing. He was really mad that the press is being kept out of the loop on this one. |

He's right in what he said about how the American people, (if kept informed and engaged with information) would be PULLING FOR BP to stop the leak! Instead, we're all angry with BP for the accident AND the secrecy! |
