Lead Based Paint: is it really that bad? Or is it because... | |

czygyny User ID: 418932 United States 06/04/2010 03:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Some people actually care about the health of others, and made the connection between elevated lead levels in our bloodstream (most notably children who not only are more affected by smaller amounts of lead, but are more likely to injest lead by chewing on windowsills and such and are lower to the ground to be in closer contact with paint dust and chips) and fought hard to have safer paints created. No different than a group of mothers bereaved of their children because of drunk drivers banding together to create tough laws against driving while intoxicated. So if leaded paint was outlawed in the eighties but automobiles were still pumping out leaded fumes up until much more recently (2000 in the UK), do you really think the powers that be care about our health. Red lead is currently added to milk, ostensibly to give the milk a more creamy appearance.... but I'm not so sure. The toddlers you refer to would not need to bite chunks out of the windowsill for their daily dose of lead if mommy is giving them plenty of milk, now would they? I agree with the thread starter, the lead free paint is to facilitate government spying on the proletariat. |

If your walls were made of pure lead, they'd have a little more trouble. ... you know that radio waves have trouble penetrating through meters of earth. ... Visible light also interacts with pigments in the paint on surface of your wall. ..." www.physlink.com/education/askexperts/ae175.cfm Story: An old Italian painter in Rhode Island with a garage full of lead paint never hurt him. When he passed away from old age, the EPA was called and numerous other agencies. With the special space suits, etc... just why was lead paint banned? Or is it because of this: "The reason why visible light can't travel through walls as easily as gamma rays or radio waves is because, to the visible light, there's something 'there' on a similar scale of length (wavelength) and time (frequency) that the gamma rays are too small and fast to interact with and the radio waves are too large and slow to interact with. The gamma rays just pass through the spaces between and within atoms and molecules. They're small enough to do that. If your walls were made of pure lead, they'd have a little more trouble." So the TPTB can't spy on us if we have lead paint. EMP attack wouldn't hurt us so much... I've been proposing this theory for at least the last 8 years. I know for a fact that it's harder for them to spy on us (hear and see through the walls) when there is lead based paint. The older the house, the more likely there are several layers of lead lining those walls. I grew up in some really old houses, with chipped lead based paint, and lots of paint dust. The medical community has never found high traces of metals (re: lead) in my blood, and I'm pretty smart, so it hasn't affected me like they claim it does. What I do know, is that our previous house, built in 1907, had several layers of lead based paint, and if you wanted to use a cell phone, you had to either go to the big bay window (nearly hang out of it) or go outside to get reception. Nothing wireless worked unless you were in a direct line of the equipment (wouldn't travel through the walls or ceilings). |

I never saw any evidence that anyone let alone kids eat the walls or window sills. What a bunch of hooey. I did find lots of stopped up toilets from kids flushing toys. I know cause we had to get the toys out to clear up the mess. |

And aluminum is good for ya too! I personally don't buy a damn thing I am told anymore until I look into the research myself (with a special bias in favor of that which is shunned). And then before I make up my own mind as to what is what I ask myself, "why do they give a damn now when they never gave a damn before? What's in it for them that they are willing to actually LOSE MONEY to switch from one thing to another?" You'll notice that the really bad things, the really dangerous and deadly things NEVER get changed and the excuse is always the same - "it is necessary so it outweighs the dangers and the deaths." Why care about a few thousand kids getting brain damage when you don't care about a few million dying from "other products, innovations, and such?" Things NEVER change because the gooberments care. The gooberments are run by corporations. Ever work in a factory that really gave a damn about your safety and health more than productions? Sure, they'll ACT like they do, but when it comes down to it we all know which one wins (MONEY). Things only ever change because there is something to be GAINED by doing so, and if any of us think any of this "entities" called corporations or governments (not people, but fictional entities) actually care about any of us you are delusional. All they care about is SELF-progress. |

The new acrylics, and enamels, work quite well, and have a much better lasting power. Of course soon we will probably find out that silicone, and acrylic will kill you also. I guess I will have to quit eating those silicone sandwiches. Fishing and skiing keeps me a little sane. |

Before or when it gets to that point, all that is needed to to prime over it and paint with a durable latex. You keep the wood and gamma ray protection of the lead, without the harmful lead dust.
